Spotting 5-6 weeks pregnant, anyone been through it?

I'll try and keep this as brief as I can. Backstory first. Back in August I had a MMC. Baby passed at 7w and I found out at 7+5. From around week 4 and a half, to week 6 I'd had brown spotting in my knickers. I went to EPU for a scan and all was well, no reason for the bleed, they just told me it would be implantation related. It then went away and a week and a half later I noticed pink spotting when I wiped. That's when I went for another scan and we found out about the MMC.

I'm now pregnant again (should be 5+6 by my dates) and for the last 5 days I've had browny/pink watery spotting both in my knickers and when I wipe. Has anyone had this and it be normal? I'm convinced the brown discharge wasn't normal last time, even though at the time, everything looked fine with baby. I have a daughter who is 7 and in that pregnancy I had no bleeding or spotting whatsoever. I'm just scared this is going to end up in MMC. I have a scan at EPU next Thursday, they said they wouldn't scan before then as they wouldn't be able to see much. Even though last time, they scanned me at 5+5. So I'm just waiting it out and hoping for the best, but everytime I go the loo and see my knickers I just feel disheartened 😫

Sorry for your loss op Flowers
I had brown spotting in both my pregnancies. 1st time like you it was a mmc at 9 weeks found at 12. 2nd time and I carried ds to term. Its bloody scary though. I ended up paying allot in private scans for my own sanity during 2nd pregnancy. X

I'm attaching a photo on my next comment as I forgot on the post, so don't scroll down further if you don't want to see 🙈🤣 It's not bad/gruesome though

This is what it's been like for the last few days. Sometimes there's more than others. Like yesterday I barely had anything, today there's more. It's like ugh 😫

Thank you. That's reassuring that you had it both times but both didn't end in loss. I think I'm worried because it ended as it did last time, that it's gonna go the same way this time... Did they find a reason for it in your second pregnancy or?

Sorry you’re going through this @rach971 ❤️
I had a wipe of pink watery blood at 5+4 weeks which then turned into brown discharge and spotting. I had a scan a week later at 6+4 and all was good with babe and we saw a heartbeat. They also identified the bleed and it’s an old bit of implantation bleeding which is making its way out. I’ve had brown spotting on and off since, now 7+2 weeks and keeping everything crossed!

It’s so hard but try not to worry, and once you have your scan hopefully it will set your mind at ease, but I know how had it is when you’ve had a loss before 💕

Sorry for your loss previously OP. Can only imagine how stressful this is for you now.
I had spotting weeks 5 and 6 and then a big bleed around the end of week 6 and another at week 8 alongside right sided pain. Panic stations and it was awful. Turns out I had an SCH and all was absolutely fine. Carried to term and my daughter is happy and healthy! Wishing you all the best of luck. Xx

So sorry for your loss 🤍I had brown spotting which ended in a MMC in May this year. I had it again at 4, 5 and 6 weeks with my current pregnancy (also had bright red blood) and I’m now 26 weeks and everything is fine. The EPU did give me progesterone at the 6 week point with this pregnancy given the previous bleeding and the bleeding this time, which I took until 16 weeks. I don’t know if that’s the reason baby is fine, but perhaps you could ask your EPU whether they would prescribe it? Wishing you the best ♥️

Sorry for your loss!
I've had two MC and didn't have spotting leading up to them.
When I did have spotting, it turned out fine and I got my little boy!

ElmTree22 · 30/11/2022 08:56

I had pink spotting that progressed into a miscarriage at 6w. With my DD I didn't have anything. I could be wrong but brown is old blood so could be implantation. I hope it all goes well for you ❤️

hoowhoo · 30/11/2022 11:37

I had spotting with my first - he's now 4 very healthy. My second I had a mega bleed and my second was born healthy too. It's worrying but not necessarily bad. I didn't have cramps either time which is key apparently

Stunningscreamer · 30/11/2022 11:41

I had spotting too. It's not necessarily an indication of miscarriage. With me it was related to a friable cervix, which didn't cause any issue with the pregnancy. Hope yours is good news.

hallodarknessmyoldfriend · 30/11/2022 11:46

I had spotting & light bleeding (small clots too) last week. Scan showed heartbeat & I was put on progesterone. I am 9 weeks today and had another scan yesterday that showed heartbeat.

My obgyn told me bleeding in early pregnancy can go both ways, so it's always good to check it out.

Hope your scan goes well Flowers

I’m sorry for your loss 🤍

I know all experiences are different but i have had spotting all the way through my pregnancy, this is my first pregnancy..
I have had spotting at 6 weeks which was brown and slightly pink, 9 weeks fresh red blood, then brown/pink spotting at 10 weeks, 14 weeks and the most recent spotting was this weekend at 18 weeks which was bright red..

Thankfully for me, all has been ok on all the scans i have had- NHS and private. It’s terrifying when it happens though and each time i go to the loo im expecting to see something scary!
The reason for my bleed has never been found, the midwife thinks im going to be a lady who bleeds/spots throughout but my hospital have been fantastic and encouraged me to ring every time it happens, i spoke with a midwife this weekend who had no concerns!

I hope that all works out well for you! X

Ajaal · 30/11/2022 12:59

I had a lot of bleeding at 6 weeks - my son is now 1 years old 😊 there was no apparent reason for the bleeding, but it was much more than spotting. I know the complete feeling of anxiety you are going through until your scan. Sending you good luck

Betsyboo87 · 30/11/2022 13:46

Yes I had this with my first. It continued until around 8 weeks and then suddenly stopped. He’s a healthy 2yo now.

chasethesky · 30/11/2022 14:57

I had brown/pink spotting every day in my first pregnancy from 6 weeks and it stopped right around the time of my 12 week scan. He’s now 2 years old and completely fine :) Midwives always chalked it up to being old blood working it’s way out and said to only be concerned if it turned bright red like you’ve just cut open your finger x

Thank you everyone for replying ☺️🥰

@thelma57 Glad all is well for you ☺️ I think that's what also worries me is last time this happened and I went for a scan, they could see no reason for any sort of bleed and just chalked it down to implantation. It's hard because it stopped for a few days, before the mmc. So the brown discharge I had then could have been completely normal and it was just coincidence that I had a MMC, or it could have been a sign something wasn't going right, but I don't know if the two were connected or not 😫

@Olivia199 I do keep trying to tell myself that other people have had proper bleeds and been fine so I don't need to stress, but it just reminds me so much of my MMC last time 😫 So glad all was well for you though.

@Cdoc Thank you. That's so good that they gave you the progesterone. It's definitely something I'm wanting to mention when I go in for my scan but I feel like I wouldn't get it unless I have another MC... They only seem to interviene here after you've had two. It's reassuring to know that you had it in both pregnancies yet it didn't always mean the same outcome. That's one of the things I'm struggling with. Because my brown spotting in my last pregnancy might have had nothing to do with the mmc. It could have been totally unrelated. Or it could have signalled something was wrong early on. It worries me because I automatically connect it to ending in a MMC but it might have been completely unrelated and unconnected to what happened.

@SunshineClouds1 Thank you. It's funny how it's so different for everyone isn't it. Some people can have no spotting and it end in mc or some people can have huge bleeds and all be okay. I'm just trying to stop worrying until the scan and I have some actual facts as to whether all is okay or not in there.

@ElmTree22 Thank you. That's what the EPU said last time about it being old blood. It's more watery this time than last time though and there's a little more of it. It's still going on now. One more week til scan day!

@hoowhoo Thank you. I did have cramps towards the start of the discharge happening but I'm sure it just have just been the normal early pregnancy cramps because I've not started bleeding or anything and the discharge is still there but the cramps have gone the past two or three days.

@Stunningscreamer Thank you. I'm just hoping all is okay on the scan in a weeks time and that they can maybe see some reason for it at least. They couldn't last time which made it even more hard to understand 😫 They said implantation but I was too far along for it to be that really. Imo anyway.

@hallodarknessmyoldfriend Thank you. I'm going to mention progesterone at my scan, even if they can just test to see if it's at the correct level? But if anything bad happens this time then I'm definitely pushing to have it next time.

@LauraA31 Thanks ☺️🥰 It's in some ways reassuring to know they didn't find a cause for yours and all is well, because they couldn't find a cause for mine last time either. They put it down to implantation. But I don't know if it was connected in anyway to the mmc or totally unrelated so that makes it harder. Just hoping all will be okay at the scan. Preparing for the worst and hoping for the best 🤞

@Ajaal Thank you ☺️ Just wish they could have scanned me sooner! 😫

@Betsyboo87 That's reassuring, thank you ☺️ Hoping all will be okay for me too 😫

@chasethesky Oh wow, that's really reassuring to know. Mine has been going on for 5 days now and I just keep checking my knickers all the time in the hope it's stopped 😫 feels so disheartening keep seeing stuff there!
