Sorry for a repost but I need advice ASAP!
I’ve had expanding foam put into my attic far side of building, my attic door is above my bathroom… I’ve not gone up there my dad has applied it. This is the product details - I’m worried about staying in the house. Although I’m not near the expanding foam can it cause harm to baby??

No, if the foam is in the attic your baby will be fine. The attic will be ventilated so excess fumes will leave the house until the foam is set.

I read this on the back and it’s made me come to tears with anxiety. - I’ve not been up in the attic myself but the hatch to it is in my bathroom as I live in a upstairs flat… will everything be okay? I’ve chatted to a midwife and she’s not sure

If you haven't come in contact with it I'm pretty sure you will be fine. If its in the attic and gases given off due to heating will rise. I'm pretty sure it cannot affect you through the ceiling/loft hatch.

The hazards that are most severe and related to pregnancy for this product are based on the route of inhalation of the fumes.

It's likely to have already set and the vapours dispersed. As long as you weren't in the room,l during the applications, which you've said you weren't, then you would have no contact with it and you and the baby will be fine.

That’s more reassuring I guess, I’ve honestly been sat down crying all day. My dad did it at 10:45 I returned home at roughly 16:30 so that I wasn’t home and I left the bathroom window open with the attic hatch shut.
im only young (21) so my questions or worry’s may seem petty but I’ve been through a loss a year ago and I’m petrified anything harming baby, I don’t know alot about sealing or expanding foam etc it was applied to the part of the attic above my bedroom I think my anxiety is making me skeptics of being in here or even sleeping in the Room tonight

It's spray foam. The warning phrases relate to inhalation of the propellant when it's blown out of the can, and direct skin contact with the wet foam whilst it's still wet. You're not at risk of either of these, and were never at risk if you weren't in the attic when it was sprayed.

Yeah I completely get that tbf, I was the same after my losses.

Deciphering these documents is what I do for a living for the most part. They always sound severe but generally companies over classify products to cover their backs.

You'll be fine, go have a good kip.

Thank you, it means a lot. It’s been needing done for a week now but I kept trying to find advice online but I’ve been scared off for the most part, and my brain works differently now that I’ve experienced loss im just over protective I guess.

but thank you all for the more informative advice hoping all will be okay🙁

Is it possible for the smell to leak through the ceiling? My bedroom has a weird smell but I’m not sure if that’s just my pregnancy nose as it’s quite dry and burning this evening but also I’m sat here still very much paranoid

We've renovated our whole house while I've been pregnant - I'm now 36 weeks and haven't had any adverse affects. Plenty of people do home improvements just like you have. Our view has always been that those risks are mainly about prolonged, recurrant exposure. The odd bit of DIY isn't going to have caused any harm.

Batbatbatty · 27/11/2022 13:22

@Ultraviolett wouldn't it be better for you just to go stay with your parents for the time being?

ChickpeaPie · 10/12/2022 22:18

I’d be more concerned that you’ve devalued your house by putting spray foam in the attic
