Early Scan - Really confused about Pregnant date vs Gestational date

Hello!

I just yesterday found out (through 9 +ve tests 😂), and going from date of last period (22nd Oct) that would make me 4weeks pregnant according to NHS stuff.

But all my reading says the first two weeks are counted when you're not pregnant.

Looking at early scans, to get one this year and they say 8 weeks.

I've called two places and been super confused with their answers, does this mean 8 weeks 'doctor' Pregnant, or 8 weeks Gestationally Pregnant?

8 weeks from 22/10 is 17/12, but I embryo will only have been growing six weeks. (There is no chance it is any more than that)
Is this okay for an early scan? Would like one as I have horrific anxiety.

I can't figure out when I'm looking online if the heartbeat is visible 6 weeks gestation or 6 weeks pregnant and the whole 2 week thing is confusing the absolute life out of me 😭

Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

Yes if you book a scan for when you are 8+ weeks from your lmp that should be fine. It’s 40 weeks in total, the first 2 weeks are before you ovulated/conceived but it counts as an estimate until you have your 12 week dating scan, then they may move it by a few days based on crl measurement.

As pp said, you base everything off the first day of your last period until your 12 week scan.

You will have a scan around 8 weeks from the first day of your last period 🙂 once pregnant everything is based from the first day of your last period! It makes it easier for everyone involved.

8 weeks from your last period is around the 17th Dec. Although baby has only been growing for 6 weeks that is classed as 8 weeks pregnant. So absolutely fine to have a private scan just before Christmas

Thanks so much all, that makes a lot of sense.

Unsure why I couldn't figure it out myself 😂 but very appreciate your time!!

@BoodifulGoose promise I’m not being a stalker but my date of last period is also 22nd October!

I booked my early scan for 23rd Dec

Hahaha don't worry 😂
Awww that's so exciting! We're cycle twins 😁

My midwife (!?!) called yesterday and she advised that I'd be fine for the weekend of the 17th, so going to do that as we're always in a mad rush the few days before Xmas 😂 what an awesome little Christmas gift the scan will be for both of us though! literally the only thing I want this year 😂
