4 weeks pregnant but bleeding today

Hey guys just looking for some advice.

We have been ttc for our second baby. This month I started spotting cd22 for 6 days which was light pink/brown. It then stopped for 2 days and AF never arrived so I did a first response pregnancy test yesterday and it was a BFP which we were very excited about.

However I woke up this morning and had some bright red bleeding and some cramping - not heavy but it was more than spotting. Did another pregnancy test, also BFP but its fainter today than yesterday. BBT still very high. I never had spotting on bleeding for our first pregnancy.

I'm not sure what is happening, could it be a chemical pregnancy? :( if I call the drs would they see me this early on? Has anyone else had experiences of this?

I hope I’m wrong, but it sounds very similar to when I miscarried at 6wks. It’s sadly too early for the doctor/EPU, you’ll likely just be told to take another test in 1-2wks and contact them for a scan if it’s still showing as positive. So sorry you’re going through this x

@PointyMcguire thank you. sorry to hear about your miscarriage :( I suspect this is what may be happening also. Was the bleeding on and off for you as well? The red bleeding I had was this morning when I woke up and stopped after but i now have light pink spotting. Still feel a bit crampy too. I thought that may be the case with docs so will wait another week or two.

I was told that anything before 5 weeks is just classed as a late period. Hope you are feeling ok. I stopped testing when ttc until i was at least 2 weeks late with period as a huge number of very early pregnancies(50%+) do not take

PointyMcguire · 25/11/2022 13:07

@MumOfOneInTown123 mine was fairly consistent red bleeding, with cramping, clots and a sore back followed the evening after I started bleeding. I think all in it lasted 4-5days, and essentially felt like a heavy period. At this early stage it could go either way, especially if your bleeding has already tapered off. I’ll keep everything crossed for you x

@Iamsodonewith2020 yup i should wait next time! It can really get your hopes up and didn't realise how common it is

@PointyMcguire thank you! The pink bleeding has been on and off today but it doesn't feel like a good sign. I guess I'll have to wait and see!

I understand this, but my thoughts were I wanted to know if I was having recurring chemicals, so I could look into it

startfresh · 25/11/2022 18:05

@MumOfOneInTown123

My chemical was bright red blood but kept coming. Also BBT had dropped so, deep down, I knew it was happening but didn't want to believe it.

I hope you have better news, but I, along with a lot of people, had a successful pregnancy straight after my chemical so there's also that to make sure you try again straight away!

Leafblow · 25/11/2022 18:06

It could be a few things,
But I had bleeding at 4 weeks that I thought was a fairly light period (which is why I didnt know I was pregnant and my dates were all wrong)
I was told it had probably been hormonal bleeding- the nurse said something about it happening when you would have had a period if you were not pregnant.

Thank you @startfresh. How long did your bleeding last before? My BBT not dropped yet but I'm expecting it to soon. Bleeding has been on and off today. That's really positive to hear though, im glad it all worked out for you in the end. Hopefully it'll end up ok next time for me too fingers crossed.

OP, I have two experiences with bright red spotting. The first began with brown spotting and then progressed to pink, then red. That bleeding got progressively worse and did result in miscarriage.

Got pregant the following month after that MC. Shortly after testing postive, I had bright red spotting. That didn't last long and eased off into pink and then brown after a couple of days. I have had light red, pink and brown spotting quite frequently since. All scans have showed a happy baby and my dating scan today went perfectly, despite all of the spotting.

Your experience definitely does sound more like my first so I'd prepare for the worse but hope for the best. But, as with my second experience, it isn't always worst case scenario.

Good luck!

Thank you @B1993 good to hear your experiences and glad to hear the latter one was all good in the end! I definitely feel like this isn't a good sign so preparing myself. Hopefully next time things will work out better.

Thats interesting, I hope its that. Its so hard waiting around to see what happens Sad

The waiting is the worst 😒 I would say try to keep yourself busy, but I know that’s easier said than done! If it’s any consolation I fell pregnant a couple of months after my loss and am now 33wks, and I know several friends that went through similar.

startfresh · 28/11/2022 21:24

Sorry, just saw your response. I think it was a few days, possibly a week. If I hadn't tested, I wouldn't have known it was anything other than a period. I'm glad I knew as I had recurring MC which meant closer checks for next pregnancy and I felt much better. Then another (so far) healthy pregnancy, without a MC in between.

Yummymummy2020 · 28/11/2022 21:39

The hospital and doctor can do bloods. If the hcg drops it’s not a viable pregnancy as was in my case! You can def find out though with blood tests. I had to go back 48 hours later for more and as mine dropped it was sadly not meant to be.

MumOfOneInTown123 · 29/11/2022 22:31

Thanks guys. Sadly it was definitely a chemical pregnancy Sad The bleeding got heavier, pregnancy tests turned negative eventually and BBT now dropped. Hopefully next time it'll work out for us.

I have noticed my cycles have changed since having DS. They are regular around every 28 days but I get slightly more spotting before my periods start and a couple of cycles I've had mid cycle spotting too for a few days. Hopefully nothing else underlying.

@MumOfOneInTown123, sorry to hear this 💔

I mentioned before but I conceived again right after my miscarriage (well, that next cycle but a few weeks after). It has, so far with tightly crossed fingers, been successful and I'm now in the second trimester. The 12 week scan went perfectly 😍

My point being, after a loss, many women go on to healthy and successful pregnancies. It's hard having been through that experience at all but often it's isolated and isn't a indication of anything more sinister.

startfresh · 30/11/2022 06:14

I also conceived right after my MC as soon as I ovulated so definitely, if you feel up for it, try this cycle. There's an old wives tale (I don't think it's proven) about fertility being high straight after an MC and it worked for my and others that I know, as well as the poster just above.

So sorry it didn't work out, but hopefully we can add you to the list!

MumOfOneInTown123 · 30/11/2022 21:08

Congratulations @B1993 !! That's great news. And thank you @startfresh. Lovely to hear your stories and how everything turned out ok in the end. I guess back to the drawing board, but we will try again straight away too and hoping it happens fairly quickly for us as well, fingers crossed Smile
