12 week scan - looks odd ?

I'm relieved to have had my first scan ! I cried through all of it and only saw the feet kicking when they did the anatomy check for limbs, but did anyone else have a scan at 12 weeks and it didn't really look like scans that you see from other people ? The head shape isn't defined and 'round baby' looking that I've seen, in fact the top parts not even there. Feeling a bit anxious cause from the pics they look a bit like bart simpson, could literally finish the pic with his hair and it would be a 100% match :' )

It’s probably just the angle, I don’t have a clue what the technical terms are but when they move the probe around different parts show up, then they disappear etc 😂 maybe someone else can explain properly
If there was something obviously wrong they would have told you

Definitely just the angle. In mine they look like they have no limbs at all, even though the sonographer saw them all

I too had my 12 week scan today, turns out I'm 13 weeks but unfortunately there are some serious concerns. You would definitely have been told if anything didn't look right. I'm sure your little one us just perfect.
Congratulations 💐 x

They couldn't see a thing at my 12wk scan because my pelvis is so tilted the ultrasound picked nothing up, we had to go for an internal scan and we could see but it wasn't super clear. Normally you'd get a clearer scan at around 20 wks but if they had worries they'd have told you then and there. There's also discrepancy in the quality of the machines the community midwives use and the main hospital ones as well as the technique of the person scanning so try not to compare too much.

So sorry @Lulabella22 - Ive been there in the past. Wishing you all the best x

If you get a picture when the baby is facing a certain way which makes the picture from a top down perspective, baby looks like a little peanut Smile

Mine looked like jelly babies at the 12 week scan, little limbs and all, perfectly normal if slightly annoying now

GreyTS · 24/11/2022 21:59

Ah fuck @Lulabella22 I'm so sorry, been there a few times, it's awful and I hope you are ok

Cakecakecheese · 24/11/2022 22:03

@Lulabella22 I'm sorry to hear that. Sending love.

My 6 year old looked like an oil slick on the 12 week scan. Exactly like it. She's now a beautiful, happy, inquisitive 6 yr old. Panic not!

Cakecakecheese · 24/11/2022 22:07

My baby's scan photo didn't really resemble a baby. The main thing is to check how the baby is doing so a lovely mantelpiece picture isn't guaranteed. We had a private scan to get a nice picture.

Bubbles021 · 24/11/2022 23:46

Yeah it can be the angle! Both of my babies looked like their limbs weren't attached on the early scan photos 😂 just looked like little bodies with arms and legs floating around them!
