Hello.

I had an early scan today, and we saw just a small white dot on the ultrasound. I know this can be normal because of how early it still is. My problem is that I am comparing it to my first pegnancy where things seemed a little more conclusive.

I do not have any pregnancy symptoms yet. They have taken my bloods and I have another appointment booked next Friday which would put me at roughly 6 weeks pregnant.

Can anyone reassure me and say it is okay to not see much on a scan this early?

Thank you,

What was the reason for having a scan so early?

FancyANewID · 24/11/2022 15:20

Why on earth are you having a scan at 4 weeks?

I had an early scan at 8 weeks with my last dc because (embarrassingly) I had absolutely no idea how far along I was being unplanned. Turned out to be 8 weeks and there was a small vaguely bean shaped white blob. The difference between that and a 12 week scan where there's clearly a baby, was huge.

I'd imagine at 4 weeks there would be next to nothing to see as standard.

I think at that point the embryo is the size of a poppy seed, so it’ll be incredibly difficult to see anything I imagine.

I’ve seen threads where people struggle to see heartbeats at 6ish weeks as that is still such a hit and miss stage to have a scan. If you want a better idea of how things are progressing I would say waiting until 8 weeks will be a much easier experience as you are likely to see a bit clearer.

I know it’s hard to wait but having a scan too early can just increase anxiety if the sonographer can’t see what they need to see in order to reassure you.

Sounds very normal to me

I had one at 5+1 and could only see a gestational sac and nothing more. That looks like a black area though. I just had one as my pregnancy was unplanned and I wasn’t sure how far I was. A lot can change in a short period of time though. A week later I saw the yolk sac and heartbeat as well.

Same story at 5+1, all good at 8+3, 11 and 13 weeks. Now 15 weeks.

This happened weeks later there was a tiny heartbeat

Hi all,
I recently found out I was pregnant quite late compared to when it said I would get a positive result so a little unsure on dates. My last period started on 17/07//2023 and I had a positive reading from an early days test on the 19/08/2023.
I had some brown/tinged blood in my urine only when I wiped and only on 2 trips to the bathroom first thing in the morning on 22nd and 23rd. I have been for 2 blood tests one hcg result on 22nd was 765 and today 24th was 978 so whilst it's an increase its not doubled. Is this normal has anyone had anything similar? I now have to go back in 2 days. I also had a scan which found nothing at all. Online says in around 4/5weeks but doctor says that could be 2 more than I actually am. So confused. Any reassurance appreciated.
