NIPT done at 14+6 says girl
Anatomy scan today said boy… they even got someone else to check!

Can the scan be wrong? I would have thought at this point it’s accurate, but then I thought that about NIPT as well.

Sorry I know very little. Just know of this occurence but have no idea what it means in practice! Sorry

I know somebody who was told a girl from NIPT. They found out at 20 week scan it was a boy.

A lady local to me was told she was having a boy. She bought an awful lot of blue things and gave birth to a girl.

They have a lovely bond now, but she struggled immediately after the birth.

@Cuppasoupmonster I wish you all the best. Nobody realises how upsetting this is until they are in the situation. Ultimately I think most people just want a healthy baby regardless of sex & mistakes happen so I am confident this is what has happened. When you have your baby in your arms you will look back at this time and breath a strong breath of relief. Please keeps us updated down the line.

We were told "probably a boy" at 20 weeks. DS (then 2) was really campaigning for a brother so we thought we'd better try and be more certain than "probably" so we could manage ds's expectations. We had a private scan at 22 weeks, which said girl. We had a girl.

Cuppasoupmonster · 23/11/2022 19:53

Well the scan also said very obviously boy and they’ve taken a redraw of blood to do the test again. So just waiting to see what that says I guess. If it’s male then we’ll chalk the first one up to some weird fluke, if it’s girl again then further investigations needed! I’m still feeling very shocked and down.

Of course you are because you still don't have a conclusion but hopefully you will get that soon. Did they give you a timescale?

Cuppasoupmonster · 23/11/2022 20:01

It’s 5 working days for the results but they’re hoping as they’re just checking the gender it will be quicker than that. I have an appointment with fetal medicine on Thursday morning (a week tomorrow) so hoping it will be back by then to give us some clue what’s happened.

That's ok, it's definitely not intersex though. Apparently it used to be called 'super female' syndrome but that was dropped in favour of triple x!

@Cuppasoupmonster the NHS sonographer was pretty sure it was a boy. I obviously wasn't convinced. When I went to the private scan, I was told that the baby had her legs closed. It took quite a while for her to see the genital area but once she did, she was certain.

Sometimes, if the sonographer is not as skilled they can't always interpret the scan really well I think.

PutOnAHappyFace · 01/12/2022 20:07

@Cuppasoupmonster how you getting on? Hope you're well and the mystery has been solved and you were just in the tiny percent that gets the wrong result.

Cuppsoupmonster · 01/12/2022 22:10

Hi! Thanks for checking in on me. Amnio confirmed a baby boy with normal male chromosomes 💙 what a relief. Who knows what happened with that NIPT but I’ve read quite a few accounts of it being wrong online and it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s accuracy is slightly lower than claimed. Hopefully the hospital is now slightly better prepared if this scenario crops up again!

PutOnAHappyFace · 01/12/2022 22:20

What a relief for you. Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy, I hope it goes smooth and is nice and peaceful now.

Congratulations on your little boy.
