NIPT sex was wrong

Hi ladies

Did the NIPT at 15 weeks which came back low chance & said girl.

just had the 20 week scan which was very clearly boy - they even got another person in to check.

Im now very upset. I didn’t have a preference but had got used to my ‘daughter’ in my head and now feel like she’s vanished.

The hospital obstetrician is also investigating as she said there are some rare conditions where the baby has female DNA but male parts. So I’m worried about that as well.

Has this happened to anyone else?

What NIPT did you have? I’ve read this can occasionally happen with Harmony because they sometimes pick up on mother’s DNA. It’s apparently not quite as good at separating it as Panorama for instance. Could be wrong but that’s my understanding. Appreciate this just be upsetting as you’ve gotten used to the idea. I hope you’re low risk as far as the other results go.

I had the Iona! With ultrasound direct. Yes thankfully everything else low risk.

Haven’t heard of Iona, sorry. But hope you can get some answers as to why it was incorrect.

Latenightreader · 22/11/2022 13:37

Not me, but a friend was told her twins were boy-girl when they turned out to be two girls. This was a scan rather than NIPT and took place some years ago. I have a feeling they didn't find out the truth until they arrived. She found it very hard for a few days, especially when added to the general strangeness of the hormone rushes etc, and it took them ages to decide on a second girl's name!

I don't trust them that's why I leave it till they get here!

Thanks everyone ultrasound direct have booked me in for a repeat scan and blood test tomorrow. So will see what that turns up.

Sorry it was the Vision test. They recently switched but still have Iona all over the website!

Just to update this thread in case anyone finds it in future, another scan yesterday confirmed baby boy 💙 we’ve had a redraw of bloods and will see what they say!

…and amnio shows normal baby boy chromosomes. NIPT was WRONG!

babyjellyfish · 01/12/2022 13:55

How bizarre!

Are you feeling better now you have a definite answer?

Cuppsoupmonster · 01/12/2022 14:18

Much better thank you, I was worried about intersex and things like that 😱 so glad to draw a line under it and move on.

babyjellyfish · 01/12/2022 18:51

I'm so glad, OP.

Baby boys are lovely.

Baby boys are lovely.

I have two and I concur 💙💙

I didn’t have a preference initially, but is IS a
headfuck to be told ‘definitely boy/girl’ for a month then be told something else. It’s nothing to do with gender stereotypes despite some of the mean messages on here, it’s just the shock - surprise news in pregnancy is never great! Happy to say I’m feeling much better a week down the line and am now just as excited for my son 💙
