Sweep success stm?

Anyone have a successful sweep at 39 weeks with second pregnancy? I've been offered one tomorrow but it seems like they're notorious for being unsuccessful or working when is really overdue anyway. I think I'm going to decline but thought I'd ask for others experiences..

I had two in my second, both at 38 weeks and it didn't do anything, I was 1.5cm, but cervix was still very high, and when I was induced at 39 weeks it was still the case, so for me a waste of time. With my first I had one at 37 weeks and then a other at 40 weeks, on the second I was 2-3cm, could stretch to 4cm, had a bloody show and still went to 40+5, so again a waste of time

Thanks for the reply @annlee3817. I was thinking the same, I don't want it to get my hopes up and inhibit labour instead. I'm already having that from my mucus plug coming apart slowly slowly over the last few weeks.

Had one at 39+6 and she was born 40+2. Who knows if it helped though! Not sure I’d have another one, found it very uncomfortable and had lots of bleeding after. Only had it as they were pushing for induction or section!

I was due to be induced at 37 weeks, had two sweeps at 36+6 and 37 and waters broke within hours. But I'd already started to dilate (3cm) and baby's head was very low.

Good luck💪

I went for it 😬. I don't hope out hope but a small part of me is really praying it does something. Baby was 2/5 engaged so not too low. I've been losing my mucus plug for weeks now and lost more straight after but nothing other than that. I won't go back for a repeat though if this doesn't do anything.

With DC 3 I had a sweep at 40 + 4 weeks. I had a bit of a show after and ended up having on off contractions for 3 days. By the time I went into labour I was exhausted. I refused to have one with my others. That is until I was a 8 days overdue, the longest I had ever been pg with DC 7. Honestly in my mind I thought he would be early as he was my 7th but my sweep did nothing, I was induced at 12 days over. I really hope it works for you! My midwife last year with DC7 was brilliant and did say if it didn't work at the very least we would know what was going on down there which was true.

I gave birth less than 24 hours after my sleep with DC4 ! Definitely worked in my case x

Strokethefurrywall · 22/11/2022 14:30

I had one at 37+5, baby arrived 5 hours later
I had one at 38, baby arrived 38+2

kegofcoffee · 22/11/2022 14:42

I gave birth within under 24 hours of my sweep at 39weeks.

Fingers crossed for you .

CheeseAlways · 22/11/2022 14:42

I had one at 39+5 and baby born early morning on due date

greenerfingers · 22/11/2022 20:28

Oh wow so many of you it worked for. I've had more mucus plug come away since and nothing else, before it was always clear but now it's starting to look more mucus coloured (gross I know), so I think it's shed that but as for labour I have no idea. My ribs are broken from the kicks today though so I really hope it happens soon.

I had a sweep at 39+5 with my first pregnancy.

I had the sweep at around 10-11am and was in labour (having regular contractions) by 8pm. My waters went at 10pm and baby born the next morning.

Worked a treat for me.

Can you ask for them to calculate your bishop score and see if it’s worth going for a sweep?

She said baby's head was there and she could feel the membranes so guessing my body is gearing up but nothing from the sweep unfortunately. I've been booked for a second sweep tomorrow but think I'll decline. It wasn't painful at all or anything just strange and afterward felt a bit pointless. I had a general check up so was there anyway yesterday, tomorrow I'd have to go just for the sweep and doesn't seem worth the hassle.
