Just over 4 weeks pregnant and cyst on ovary

I had issues with my cycle for months and I had scan yesterday. I told them I was pregnant, but I am only 3 or 4 days past my period so very early. There was no sign of pregnancy but I have a cyst on my ovary and when asked I was told just contact your GP in 5 days. My brain is now in over drive, am I even pregnant, is the HCG because the cyst in actually a tumour or was the cyst actually an ectopic pregnancy. My rational brain says its too early to pick a pregnancy and I could be pregnant, but the worrier in me is left with so many unanswered questions and I feel I haven't been reassured and left panicked.

It's quite normal to have a cyst on your ovary in early pregnancy - they're often on the ovary you ovulated from. Try not to panic.

@Hotpotatotoe thank you. I'm terrified of something being wrong. I have had 4 loses in 5 years and it's taken me 2 years to build up the courage to try again.

I had this and was told this kind of cyst which is on the ovary you ovulated from can actually support the pregnancy. Look up 'corpus luteum' - After numerous losses I am now 32w pregnant and I think my cyst helped :-) keeping everything crossed for you x

When I had my first scan they found a cyst in my ovary. Was the first I had heard of it. They said it would probably go away. I assume it did as it was never mentioned again (I had more than 2 scans due to midwife worried about size) and I was never offered any extra checks on the cyst after birth.
I now have a healthy 8 month old and my periods returned at around 5 months and seem normal to me.

@hopingfor23 thank you so much. Fingers crossed

Hey! I've been pregnant twice this year and both times they've found a cyst on my ovary, the first pregnancy I lost but totally unrelated to cyst and I'm currently 9 weeks and have a cyst, sonographer said totally normal it's from the side I ovulated on, a false positive is very very very rare, have you kept testing to see progression? I don't think a scan would pick up much at 4/5 weeks either xxxx

babybrainfart · 17/11/2022 12:10

@Moosh18 thank you. I got a positive at 3 weeks and 3 days pregnant, which has stayed very dark since 4 weeks. I also have done digital which was 1-2 weeks at 3 weeks and 5 days and 2-3 at weeks. It's a shame my sonographer didn't explain anything to me, its created anxiety for nothing.

digital showed 2-3 weeks at 4 weeks and 2 days*

@babybrainfart honestly don't worry at all! You normally get a cyst where the egg is released, but it's normally gone totally by 12 week scan which is why most people never know xx

babybrainfart · 17/11/2022 12:18

Thank you so much, I feel so much more reassured now :)

I had a cyst the size of my fist at my first scan with DC1. I was also really scared and remember going home and crying. I was in a foreign country and had no one to talk to and that’s how I discovered Mumsnet (I lurked like a boss lol).

The cyst persisted throughout pregnancy and made me feel extra bloated, uncomfortable, and constipated throughout. I had a c section and they prepped me for oophorectomy at the same time if the cyst was still there due to its size (9x12cm). But it wasn’t there any more by the end of my pregnancy. So even big ones can go away by themselves.

Hope your pregnancy goes to plan!

Hey, I’m in the same position as you are 😣 was everything okay in the end? Xx

cosymama2020 · 27/10/2023 12:57

@Laur99 please don’t fret, I’ve got a very large ovarian cyst and baby is healthy, same happened with my first pregnancy and baby was born healthy.

I’m happy to hear this ❤️ I miscarried last month and just recently found out I’m pregnant again.. I was expecting to be 5/6 weeks today and booked an early scan, to be told I’m way earlier and all they can see is a cyst. I’ve been rebooked for 3 weeks time but the wait and uncertainty is all I have on my mind..
