VERY WORRIED… brown blood and cramping

Anyone had an experience with other this please

I have a collection of blood in my uterus (told it’s harmless to baby, though quite large) this was spotted at a 6 week scan, I was told I may have brown bleeding. At 7 weeks I had my first lot of brown blood (small amount) this has continued on and off until now (nearly 13 weeks) at 9 weeks I had a scan, baby with strong heartbeat, measured a little ahead and the blood was once again seen on the scan.

on Saturday I felt very ‘wet’ I went and checked and there was a relatively large amount of watery dark brown discharge. I had to wipe about 3 times until it cleared, after this it stopped. Followed by some quite painful cramping. This has now resolved but after swabs taken at the hospital the midwife essentially said it’s concerning and not sure what the outcome will be- I have my 12 week scan on Thursday and therefore they won’t scan me prior.

I’ve completely lost my mind, convinced I’ll go to the scan and will have lost the baby.

have anyone experienced this? Was the baby okay 😓

I have had brown spotting in both my pregnancies 9 weeks then 11 weeks respective. As far as I know it is fairly common. I had no issues atol afterwards.

Brown blood is old blood and I was told it was nothing to be worried about. Fingers crossed that all is well for you also.🤞

Brechdanjamcaws · 15/11/2022 19:41

Had exactly that with dc2 who is now 15 months!
I even had it at the same time as you, about 7 weeks.

Skyispink · 15/11/2022 19:44

@Citycentre3 thank you got your reply. I too was told brown=old=fine. But the midwife yesterday really concerned me. She said it wasn’t normal and that the amount sounded like a large amount of blood loss. My main fear came from the subsequent cramping, it was pretty severe and felt similar to a horrible period. Since though I’ve had no spotting or cramping which is what I’m holding onto

@Brechdanjamcaws thats reassuring to know.

I read a few threads of people who had a brown bleed and lost the baby which sent me over. I had spotting in my last pregnancy but not brown and not this amount. I know I’ll only know once I have the scan but so glad to hear positive stories

Yes I remember feeling my period was about to come at the time. Your baby will be burrowing and growing, and some women just bleed easier than others. As it happened twice to me in a similar timeframe then I assume I must be one of those women. Some midwives are more experienced than others. I would try not to worry.

I had a huge bleed with clots the size of eggs at 12 weeks, just after my scan. I saw my consultant a few days later and she told me then any was fine and it should stop, and not to worry about older blood as it'll be brown then black ... it lasted til about 17 weeks, I was going out of my Mind too, I even went to the GP in a real state at about 16 weeks and they did a Doppler which was ok, she's 14 now 🥰

jennyt82 · 15/11/2022 20:03

I had a big bleed at 11 weeks in my second pregnancy. I was checked out at the hospital and my cervix was closed and baby was fine. I went back a couple more times because the bleeding lasted a few weeks and a midwife I'd seen previously actually said to me that she'd never seen someone lose as much blood as I did the first time I went in and not lose the pregnancy. They eventually found on one of my scans a bleed outside the sac that was getting pushed out as baby grew. He's 13 now and bigger than me!

Skyispink · 15/11/2022 20:16

@Citycentre3 thats exactly how it felt, I was waiting and checking for the blood to start!
thank you that’s really reassuring.

@custardbear wow that’s crazy, extremely happy to hear that it was a positive outcome! Giving me lots of hope thank you 😊

@jennyt82 again that’s crazy to hear, I have a midwife friend who said similar, some women have huge bleeds and all is well. I’m so glad to hear, I’m starting to feel a little better now x

On my 4 miscarriages it always started with brown blood, wish first time people had of not said old blood it's fine, and told me it can go either way, hope all good with ur scan on Thursday xx

custardbear · 15/11/2022 21:49

A friend d of mine also went to A&E because of heavy bleeding and they hadn't scanned her but they could see membrane, the doctor asked if she wanted him to remove it and she said no, not without a scan to confirm it was a miscarriage but they couldn't scan her. She went to EPAU the next day and the baby was fine! That was also about 15 years ago. There's all sorts of crazy that happens in pregnancy so please try to keep sane 😉

Sprinklerainbows · 16/11/2022 16:18

@Babyghirl yes I think they often start with brown blood however, mines not turned red which happened in the 2 other miscarriages I had. My main concern is a missed miscarriage at this stage

Skyispink · 16/11/2022 16:25

Wow! The stories are crazy and definitely reassuring. I feel like some people have huge bleeds and it’s fine and then others have a tiny bleed and it’s not. So up in the air 😩

So glad to hear it :-)

SleepCheeseBeer · 17/11/2022 18:50

Glad baby is good!

I had lots of brown bleeding and small clots. I think they stopped by about 16-17 weeks but it was very scary.

That pregnancy is now 5 and still causing me stress.

Freddiefan · 17/11/2022 18:54

I'm so relieved for you.

Skyispink · 17/11/2022 19:41

@Freddiefan @Citycentre3 @SleepCheeseBeer thank you all. A huge relief. Thank you for sharing your stories it really helped xx
