12 Week Scan

I am over 11 weeks and had my booking appointment a few weeks ago but still haven't received a letter for my 12 week scan, is this normal? I'm tempted to chase but don't want to be a nuisance if its standard!

Thanks!

They won’t send you a letter, everything is done via Badger Notes. If no date on the app, you need to ask your midwife for a date.

Not every trust uses badger notes, mine doesn't and i got letters for every appointment.

OP i would chase as i had my date for 12 week scan through a fee weeks before it actually was.

Whentwobecomesthree · 15/11/2022 08:24

Not actually true. Every nhs trust does it differently. Some don't even use an app let alone a specific app.

I would definitely chase.

UGH1 · 15/11/2022 08:25

Thanks all - my trust definitely doesn't use an app. I'll give them a call this morning.

I got a letter and a text message pretty soon after booking in. I'd deff chase it x

J1290 · 15/11/2022 12:14

I chased mine and glad i did they had wrong address
letter was resent out

You have to chase them as you might miss your window for the combined scan, you won’t get to know if you have high risk for downs, you won’t get the free nipt (genetic screening) from nhs, you won’t know if your papp-a is low / need aspirin for it from 12 weeks, etc

they offer a late 2nd trimester screening similar to the combined test, but it’s not as accurate, plus it’s late for aspirin prevention, etc

you think you are 11 weeks but the scan might date you at 12 weeks or more (happened on my first pregnancy), so you have a very short time window to be seen

i had low papp-a, IUGR risks, got aspirin, extra growth scans, baby stopped growing, etc - I was very glad I knew about and did what I could

UGH1 · 15/11/2022 13:14

I have called the community midwife team and left a voicemail.. hopefully they come back to me soon. If I don't hear from them today I will book a private scan!

The private scan won’t do the combined test, the blood test part of the combined test, hence you won’t get the low/high risk for downs, your Papp-a etc
Hope they reply soon

Of course you could also book the combined test privately not just a scan. It's widely available. Not everyone uses the NHS for maternity services

Daisypod · 15/11/2022 15:56

I'm 15 weeks and I finally have my scan tomorrow, luckily though I had a private scan at 10 weeks as I wanted a NiPT which is much more accurate than the combined tests.
Hopefully you get your soon.

Burgerqueenbee · 15/11/2022 16:04

You should be able to call the hospital directly to find out, your paper notes might have then number at the front somewhere, but the hospital switchboard will be able to put you through if not.

UGH1 · 15/11/2022 16:09

Thanks all - I managed to speaking to the ultra sound department who confirmed the date with me. Its not until 13-14 weeks anyway so will book in a private scan in the meantime!

Why are you booking the private scan?

unless you book a combined private test (bloods +scan), it will only tell you the nuchal measurement, and it’s not enough info.

re. the nhs app, you could be one week more advanced than you think, and you’ll be outside the window for the combined test, which means they won’t do it, you’ll just get a plain scan at nhs too.

it’s risky to have an app this late, I’d ask for it to be moved 1 week fwd, if I were you, I’d want all the info and risks on pregnancy I could get.

UGH1 · 15/11/2022 17:36

I'm booking a private scan because I want to.

I appreciate your advice however I think your are projecting your personal anxieties. I am low risk and if it was risky to have an appointment later, I trust my midwife to inform me of that.
