12 weeks not much bump

I'm 12 weeks today and whilst my tummy is a bit harder and rounder, it's not really possible to tell and not really showing. I know this is normal and people don't always get a proper bump until later but I assumed I would show a bit more as I'm quite slim (although also have quite a long torso).

I'm beginning to obsess about size and shape of tummy as desperate for more signs that all is OK. Luckily I have 12 week scan this week so hopefully I'll get some good news.

I had previous hospital scan at 9w3days as I got so anxious something wasn't right. All was fine. I had no bad symptoms and fairly easy first trimester but I've had a couple of losses so everything worries me.

Really hope I can relax and enjoy it at some point!

Don’t worry it will be horribly big and heavy soon !!

I am slim. With my first pregnancy I didn't have a bump noticeable to anyone but me for at least 6 months. People couldnt believe I was pregnant. I got quite worried about it, paranoid that baby wasn't growing properly. Baby was born full term weighing 9lbs 8ozs.
Second pregnancy much the same - I had a few problems early on and didn't tell anyone until after the 20 week scan - nobody had noticed I was pregnant in that time. That baby also weighed over 9lbs.

Everyone carries differently. I had an early scan with my second pregnancy and they noted I had a tilted uterus which pointed back towards my spine so may be why I don't get a noticeable bump until later. Your midwives will take measurements and send you for growth scans if they are concerned.

I didn't show until 6 months and at term just looked a bit fat really

parrotonthesofa · 13/11/2022 17:12

I had twins and you couldn't tell I was pregnant until 16 weeks.

bakewellbride · 13/11/2022 17:56

The baby is about the size of a lemon at this stage op - absolutely tiny.

CSR721 · 13/11/2022 17:59

Apart from general weight gain you couldn't tell I was pregnant til I was about 26/27w x

decafsoyaflatwhite · 13/11/2022 18:35

I was not slim when I fell pregnant (about a size 12-14 so not huge either though) and I didn’t show for ages. I didn’t tell most of my work colleagues until I was about 18 weeks and given how surprised most people were I don’t think they’d guessed!

I did tell one person who I saw on a weekly basis at around 26 or 27 weeks and she seemed genuinely surprised, but I think everyone else had guessed by that point. I did have a lovely neat bump though.

I miss my bump.

Until 12 weeks, the foetus is tucked behind your public bone in the pelvis, therefore there wouldn't be any lump to see! Esp as its your 1st, it might be months before its really noticable to anyone else.

Proamble · 13/11/2022 18:38

I didn’t show until after 25w. At the end I was pretty big.

gamerchick · 13/11/2022 18:39

You're not really far on enough for a bump yet. If you have strong stomach muscles it might take a little while longer. Your uterus will pop over your pubic bone soon enough. It'll come.

BuffaloCauliflower · 13/11/2022 18:42

Totally normal not to see anything yet with first baby. I had a bit of a curve by 15-16 weeks with my first. Baby isn’t taking up much space yet. Don’t worry it’ll come

Xenapo · 13/11/2022 18:43

Sounds like it's fairly normal not to have much to show at this stage.

It's just the first time I've made it this far so maybe I was expecting more to show for it! Always that underlying fear that I'm not right or normal 😣

I do want to hide it from everyone for as long as possible though so not showing for a while longer is probably a good thing.

I am 5’8 (so fairly tall) and slim and with my first pregnancy I don’t think I had a bump until I was past 20 weeks, I remember really wanting a bump too. I was really quite big by the time I had him!

I am now 12 weeks with my third pregnancy and we weren’t planning on telling anyone until a lot lot later in the pregnancy for personal reasons, however, my bump is already getting impossible to hide, I’m genuinely shocked at how big I look, and I am still tall and slim so it’s not weight gain!

BabyB2022 · 13/11/2022 20:55

I'm slim and quite short so always assumed I'd show a lot but didn't show until quite late first time. I'm 26 weeks now and whilst I do have a bump, with a jumper on most people don't seem to notice, it sounds completely normal.

Ocampa · 13/11/2022 21:43

I didn't show until 19 weeks. I was MASSIVE by the end of the pregnancy. I had a 9 pound baby and was really bloated.

Good luck

Chanel05 · 13/11/2022 21:47

Congratulations! I didn't show with my first until around 23/24 weeks and I've always been very slim.

Strokethefurrywall · 13/11/2022 21:55

I didn't show until well into my 24th week and only had a proper bump at 28 weeks when I went into maternity wear!

MotherOfDragon20 · 13/11/2022 23:36

I’m 19 weeks with my second. I barely have a bump at all, you can maybe see it when I’m naked but there’s no way you can tell when I have clothes on. You’ll be waddling about in no time, definitely not something to worry about at 12 weeks.
