Hello everyone I’m looking for advice and reassurance I’m currently 29 weeks pregnant and my appetite has gone my midwife said this is normal however I feel so guilty that I’m affecting the baby… today I’ve only had a bowl of cereal, apple, McDonald’s chips and burger and a mouthful of pasta… I’m petrified that I’m going to be affecting him. I’ve been non stop crying since coming home from the hospital with decreased movements.
any advice welcome I’m currently balling my eyes out!

@Casketcurios So sorry you feel bad. You’ve had breakfast, a snack and a high calorie meal, is this a typical day? I’m no expert but I wouldn’t worry, the baby will take exactly what it needs X

Casketcurios · 12/11/2022 17:45

No, not before 29 weeks I used to consume a lot more but I’m not interested in food anymore but I’m forcing myself to eat something… I just feel like I’m doing harm and going to end up harming him in the process but I just feel so exhausted and bored of food! I’ve had a previous loss so I’m really down!

He'll be fine. Even in 3rd trimester he only needs 200 more calories than usual. He'll take what he wants from you, and the midwives monitoring you will be watching his growth anyway x

I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I barely eat that in a day now I'm pregnant and currently have lost nearly 3 stone in this pregnancy. Baby is fine and is weighing at 4lb2 at 32 weeks! I can't eat and what I do eat I'm not worried if it's fattening or not. Foods food at this point!

I’m just struggling to find anything I want or fancy, I’ve not had McDonald’s this entire pregnancy until today where I got a small chips and a hamburger! I normally have a big breakfast lunch and dinner with lots of fruit and veg snacks but since yesterday I’m just not interested! My baby is slightly measuring on the smaller side hence why I’m more concerned on how much I eat - my midwife just suggested whole milk, peanut butter and nuts

You’ve had breakfast, a high cal lunch and some snacks by late afternoon. Quantity clearly isn’t a problem.

It sounds like your midwife is guiding you to make some more nutritious choices.

Yeah I think I just feel guilty and very teary!
I used to not be able to go ten minutes without a snack now I could go hours and even then I have to force myself! I went from having like jacket potatoes with fillings for lunch and steak etc for dinner to having like a small sandwich for lunch and like a mouthful of something for dinner.
I had decreased movement and was worried that the lack of food is beginning to affect

If you’re concerned but have little appetite, try to focus on nutritionally valuable food, not crap like McDonalds And put a bit more protein and vegetables or fruit in your diet.

wishing3 · 12/11/2022 18:24

These babies find a way to get their calories,OP. Pregnancy is such a stressful, emotional time but it sounds like you’re doing fine looking after your baby to be.

Kindofcrunchy · 12/11/2022 18:29

Nuts and nut butters are really good for high calorie snacks. You don't have to eat lots of it to get enough nutrition (fat, protein, iron, calcium). Really good stuff. Also ignore anyone telling you to eat more protein - there's literally protein in everything, it's very hard to be deficient in it.

Water water and more water
Eat whatever you can at this point a bite of an apple, a few grapes a yoghurt. I ate nothing the whole pregnancy thought I was going to die but baby is very healthy

Casketcurios · 12/11/2022 18:29

Yes my whole pregnancy I’ve made all meals by scratch only fresh ingredients, only snacking on fruit and veggies making sure I had enough nutrients! But it’s just been yesterday and today for the no appetite, first time in a year of having McDonald’s and it’s was purely because I couldn’t figure out what I fancied eating. I’m just hoping my appetite picks up and I’m able to go back to eating lots of the food stuff to make sure baby is getting what they need

Thank you - yes I’ve just bought some peanut butter and some snack packs of KP peanuts!

im definitely doing my best to get my water in, I have also a smoothie (kids innocent ones.) every morning and the occasional chocolate milkshake as I know at the moment I always want one of those! It’s just such a strange time, I’ve always been quite anxious about not eating enough etc but some people have told me they used to live on bare minimum and managed to do okay. So I’m hoping it will all be okay and I’ll have a healthy baby
