Christmas is 2 and bit weeks from my due date. I really want to go visit my mum 3 and half hours away. Nearest hospital to mum is 2 and a half hours away. Nearest to me is 1 and a half hours. No complications so far. But my last labour was an hour from 1st contraction to baby in arms. So either way it's anyone's guess if I'll make it to either hospital.
It'll be my and kids 1st ever chirstmas without my mum. What would you do?

Stay at home and be prepared for a home birth.

Onthecuspofabreakthrough · 11/11/2022 14:06

You haven't said if she can't come to you?

SmartCar · 11/11/2022 14:07

Sorry no she can't come to me. She's my brothers carer. They have significant disabilities

SmartCar · 11/11/2022 14:08

Oh also realised that I never put in that all 3 previous pregnancies went full term bar a few days

BraveFaceScaredInside · 11/11/2022 14:16

There's no guarantee you would make it regardless if you have another quick delivery. So If I were you and I felt up to it, I would go to your mums and have a nice xmas x

Aquamarine1029 · 11/11/2022 14:22

I wouldn't be going to your mum's, that's for sure. She can't come to yours?

Where does, she live that is 2.5 hours from a hospital? Scottish islqnd? Presumably there the local gp serves as midwife for people who live there? If people in that location have babies there will be services you can access for emergency care if needed if baby comes.
If it will involve helicopters or boats that might be impacted by bad weather then you decide to take risk or not , you could be stranded there anyway if you travel

cestlavielife · 11/11/2022 14:43

Or 1.5 hours from a hospital? In uk? There must be some services nearer for births ?(unless an island)

Why have you name changed? I’d stay home this one year personally. You’d probably be very uncomfortable doing all that travelling anyway.

Thelonelychicken · 11/11/2022 14:57

Scottish Highlands. Up near John o groats nearest hospital for birth is Inverness

Stay at home

Sallyh87 · 11/11/2022 15:55

Personally, I’d stay at home.

PointyMcguire · 12/11/2022 06:30

We’re due around the same time as you and have opted to have early Christmas get togethers with family and spend actual Christmas just us so we’re near to the hospital if baby does decide to make an early arrival.
