Empty sac

I had a scan with the nhs on Sunday (for no reason really just I have had cysts before so wanted to make sure I didn’t have them in this pregnancy) I have had no pain and no bleeding. I was measuring at 7 weeks exactly (24.2mm the lady said) but she said she could only see a sac and no baby. I am still feeling all pregnancy symptoms and have had no pain or blood. I have to go back in a week on Wednesday to determine what’s going on but has anyone had this before? I thought everything was fine so just in complete shock!

I'm so sorry OP but as the veteran of 6 pregnancies (2 DC and 4 MC) at 7 weeks I've seen either a heartbeat or been told the pregnancy hasn't progressed. Have you been booked for another scan in a weeks time to check for progression?

Milliedav · 08/11/2022 13:27

I go back a week on Wednesday for a scan as apparently the cannot diagnose a blighted ovum until the sac has reached 25mm. It’s just I am overthinking every single day and it’s killing me

My heart goes out to you, it's an absolutely vile position to be in & I've had 2 MMC between 7 - 10 weeks. Absolute best of luck OP

Sonographer here! To reassure you a lot of the time we see a sac in early pregnancy with no contents but can see yolk sac and/or a fetal pole at the follow up scan. If dates are slightly out it may be too early to see anymore than just the gestation sac. Did they say they saw a yolk sac at all? If they did that is promising.

This happened to me about 12 months ago. I was asked 3 times to go in for scans, all 10 days apart. They were monitoring the growth of the sac to sort of 'give it chance' for an embryo to develop. It didn't, and I had the choice of medical intervention, D&C or wait for it to happen naturally. I took the medical intervention. I was about 11 weeks at that point, but sac only measured 7. Good luck, I hope it doesn't go on too long for you.

Hi

they didn’t say they saw a yolk sac, I had a positive test on 14th October (very very faint) my last period started 15th September and was very late so I don’t know how accurate that will be. The women did say the sac was measuring at 7 weeks exactly though.
it was a vaginal ultrasound and I had a full bladder but couldn’t pee, I’m probably just coming up with so many excuses I just really am scared of the outcome

I know it’s so easy to say but try not to worry yourself sick. Many times women have come back to me and an empty sac has shown progression with fetal contents developing. It’s a difficult process to go through because there’s no other way to assess other than to wait, re-scan and re-measure (& bloods). Hope you get answers quickly.

Hi op what was the outcome for this xx

My daughter has had ivf so dates are exact. She is exactly 6 weeks pregnant today. The scan showed gestational sac mean 4mm (5mm by 2mm). I don’t know what any of it means. Could see yolk. No fetal pole or anything else. She has to go back in a week to see pregnancy is viable. They didn’t seem positive or hopeful for her. Have you seen this sort of thing turn around for the good ? They done her bloods. Waiting for results but on home tests the line has been progressively getting darker.
