Hi everyone

I’m hoping someone can put my mind at ease that has had something similar and gone on to have a healthy pregnancy?

I had an early scan today (5 weeks exactly) due to some left sided pain over the weekend. They said my hcg levels were 6500 on Saturday when I went to a&e but when they did an internal scan today they couldn’t see a yolk sac or fetal pole which the nurse said she would expect to see a yolk sac at hcg levels that high. I’m obviously worried and googling everything which isn’t helping, has anyone had similar and everything has turned out okay?

I’ve to go back on Wednesday for bloods to check the hcg is rising and another scan on Monday.

I only saw a gestational sac at 5 weeks and have since had good 8 week and 11 week scans. I think too early to see much at all!

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl that’s really reassuring thank you, and congratulations! Did they tell you your hcg levels by any chance? The nurse really didn’t seem confident at all that it was good news

No, sorry @Worriedjune - scan only. Our EPU are not particularly interested in HCG levels. I was scanned at 5 weeks due to one sided pain (gas!). I hope next Monday helps you get some clarity. Can send you my 5 wk scan image if it would be helpful.

This literally happened to my friend the other day, she went at 5 weeks they only saw a gestational sac and no fetal pole or yolk sac and said the exact same to her they’d expect to see more with her hcg level being similar to yours. She had a week of blood tests and thinking the worst and went back a week later and saw yolk sac and fetal pole with heart beat. She’s since had a private scan too and measuring right on track with no problems.

@Jaaxe thank you so much for sharing that’s absolutely eased some of the anxiety I’m feeling! Really sorry your friend had such a worrying time but what a lovely outcome!!

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl A&E told me my pain was likely due to constipation (sorry tmi!) which made me feel a lot better but got referred for a scan just to be sure and now I’m right back to being worried sick 😔 oh if you could that would be great! They didn’t send me away with a picture but I did see the sac
