Pregnancy of Unknown Location (PUL) - any positive outcomes?

We have been TTC for about 6 months. I last ovulated on 9th October and then had (what I assumed) was my period on 20th Oct, which was quite heavy (as is normal for me) followed by a further 7 days of brown blood (which is not normal for me). I only stopped bleeding about 5 days ago.

I did an ovulation test on Saturday and it immediately came up with a blazing dark line which is unusual because I'm not due to ovulate for another couple of days. But shortly afterwards, I was sick so I thought I would do a cheapie pregnancy test afterwards - which also immediately came up with a blazing BFP!

However I read that getting a BFP after a period-like bleed can be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy which swiftly took the wind out of my sails. I went to my local EPU yesterday where they scanned me but they couldn't see anything so I'm classified as Pregnancy of Unknown Location at this point. So it's either too early to be seen, ectopic or a miscarriage. My HCG was 1336 (which seems good?). I'm going back tomorrow for more bloods and another scan.

I'm hoping that it's just too early to see anything on the scan but I don't seem to be reading many success stories and I wonder if anyone else has been in this position who could reassure me or manage my expectations.

It might just be too early to see anything!

I did have a PUL and it was just too early, eventually they found it a week later and although it sadly a blighted ovum, the initial PUL was because it was just too early

Thank you @MrNook I know I just need to wait and see really but I'm driving myself crazy in the meantime overthinking.

Hopefully will have a bit more clarity tomorrow

I had the same, mine turned out to be ectopic, but it took them a while to find it! Had regular blood tests for weeks and scans. It was eventually found and I had the injections.

Thank you for sharing. I'm so sorry for both of your losses @Proamble @MrNook

Hello @hipposinacircle how are you doing? Do you mind if I ask if you have an update. I'm in a similar position (BFP after AF) and have a phone appointment with my Dr on Monday. Thanks, hope you're ok. Don't worry if you'd prefer not to discuss x

Hi @Billyv sorry for the late response, I didn't see the notification. So after 3 further scans, they were finally able to see the sac in my Fallopian tube and confirm ectopic unfortunately.

I had an injection of methotrexate on Thursday to help resolve the pregnancy without the need for surgical intervention hopefully. I have to go back to EPU tomorrow to check my HCG levels.

Good luck with your GP appointment tomorrow. Hope you have a more positive outcome.

Hello. Thanks very much for your reply, I'm so sorry this has happened to you. Hope the injection hasn't been too bad.

My tests have darkened up quite quickly since Wednesday, but I just don't have a good feeling. I have a mild pain on and off on my left side. At least I got the BFP after a period, which gave me a heads up that something might not be right, so I'm not even thinking I'm pregnant at the moment. Really hoping my Dr sends me for a scan right away.

Thanks for your reply and I hope you feel better soon.

Right my DS is settled back down (teething), hopefully I can sleep now too.

Hi everyone,
Im so worried, so I found out the day before my period I was pregnant using a HCG test. My app said I should have tested 6 days after missed period, but me being impatient I did it before I even missed my period. I started getting pains on one side so went to the doctors and they sent me for an early scan as they were worried. I went for the scan, and they diagnosed it being pregnancy of unknown location as they couldn’t see a sac or embryo. Has this happened to anyone on here? I’m going back tomorrow to see if my HCG levels have rose but when will they next do a scan? I’ve had no pain since, no bleeding and I still have pregnancy symptoms I’m just so confused
