Speculum and high swab in early pregnancy

So I'm 9 weeks pregnant and been having some discharge and itching for a while now. Went to the GP this morning who used a speculum to do a high vaginal swab - but now I'm completely panicking about it. Surely it can't be good to be poking around up there this early in pregnancy? Has anyone had the same done or have any positive reassuring stories to calm me down?

I'm sure you're fine. Your gp wouldn't have done it if not and better to treat any infections than just let them be. I'm 15 weeks today, had some spotting out of the blue sat morning, went to maternity triage and they used a speculum and swabbed me. All fine so far

I had a couple when I was early pregnant and all was fine. Currently 37+4 and have had some later on with no problems too.

Your GP will know what they are doing and would have been careful down there.

It’s completely safe. At 9 weeks your baby is a small embryo, and is nowhere near your cervix. Anything happening in your vagina isn’t going to affect it at all.
