Nervous about showing in work

Hi ladies,
A small problem in comparison to others, but would appreciate input nonetheless... I'm 7+2 on my second pregnancy and there is already a discernable bump (to me and hubby anyway). I work in a job that has no option of wfh and I'm afraid I'm going to start showing very obviously before week 12. Haven't really put on much weight, less than a lb since start of pregnancy.
At least in the winter I'll be wearing more layers, but I'm still so afraid of colleagues asking before week 12.
Anyone been there and can offer reassurance?
Thanks 😊

You'll be fine. I hid my pregnancy until I was 26 weeks and no one had a clue. I haven't exactly got a small bump either.

Lots of baggy jumpers, flowy dresses and breathing in when you're stood up!

Would it help to do an earlier scan just in case? If you see a heartbeat at 8 weeks it's nearly as good as 12 anyway so takes away a lot of the worry.

Usually just bloating at that point anyway so likely to go down soon.

Traisonthewine78 · 06/11/2022 09:03

I was asked at week 9. I found it super inappropriate tbh as i could have easily just been bloated or put a bit of weight on. The man who asked didn't know me particularly well.

If anyone asks just say you've overindulged and you're feeling self conscious. But you're right, winter and jumpers and cardis will mean they're unlikely to notice at all.

Don’t worry it will soon go down, it’s all bloat at the moment. I managed to hold out until the 20wk scan despite early bloating!

Scrambledeggsontoasted · 06/11/2022 09:05

I was showing earlier with DC2. I had 18 months between pregnancies so not surprised.

No one said anything until I told people at 12 weeks. But when I did tell one colleague, she did wonder if I was pregnant again or 'still carrying a bit of weight from the last one' 😂

sleepymama3 · 06/11/2022 09:26

Thanks all.
@Magn I'd love an early scan but it would be at least 2 weeks before I'd get an appointment (v oversubscribed in my area) which would be just before the booking in visit. A waiting game unfortunately 🙁
@Traisonthewine78 I'm amazed a man would notice/care/ask! It's the beady eyed women I'm afraid of 😆
Thanks ladies, a minor problem but good to feel less alone with it.

It is all bloat atm - disappeared for me by 9 weeks, now 12 it's creeping up a bit again.im going to try to get away with 20wka

NalaNana · 06/11/2022 20:16

Another one hoping it will go down for you! I'm 10 weeks now but was definitely looked more pregnant at 7 weeks because of the bloating! Should be easy enough to cover for a while with loose blouses/jumpers. I'm also mortified that anyone would ask!

MajorCarolDanvers · 06/11/2022 20:19

I didn't tell at work till week 25.

Floaty cardigans and always carry a bag or a folder in front of you.

The biggest thing was trying to hide that I was drinking decaf

I really hate being this person, but sadly this is not always the case. I had a private scan at 9 weeks, told people, thought it was all ok. Had my 12 week scan and was told the baby had major problems, only picked up by the NT result, which the earlier scan didn't detect as it was too early. I hated the fact we had already told people, and then had to tell them actually, it's not ok.

I get my situation is a rare one, but these things do happen.

sleepymama3 · 07/11/2022 07:03

@emma1103 so sorry to hear this. Having to explain to people must have made it so much harder.

@MajorCarolDanvers a folder in front is a great idea, with the added benefit of looking extremely organised and competent! I switched to herbal tea a couple of weeks ago and definitely got a couple of funny looks. Can't be helped...

It was the throwing up that was hard to hide for me, long open plan office with my desk furthest from the toilets. There were many quick dashes across the office in the early months!

Margo34 · 07/11/2022 07:11

Currently 17w with DC2 and had a visible bump since 8w.

My colleagues are all too polite to say anything but I could see they noticed, especially a couple of them, and they did admit they already guessed once I told them after my 12w scan, but noone said anything before. I was careful with my outfit choices, baggy over the bump! And cardigans/long loose scarves to hide it too. Made me feel better at least attempting to hide it! I also carried thing in front of me like my lunch or a bag etc.

Congrats!

Unfortunately ive had similar experiences to @emma1103 . No scan makes it "safe". A 10 week scan for us was great and a 12 week no heartbeat. We didn't tell colleagues but had to take the news back to a lot of family and friends.

This time round as I said I'm almost at 12 week scan and have told v few people. Will try not to say to work until after xmas

gogohmm · 07/11/2022 07:20

Don't overthink it, it's probably far less noticeable than you think. Back when I had dd the only scan was at 18 weeks and there were no private scans. Colleagues obviously could suspect but nobody said anything.

My friend did have upsetting news from her scan (a month after mine) and told colleagues she miscarried, where actually her baby wasn't compatible with life, only a few people no it was medically induced.

Be thankful you get an earlier scan now!
