UTI 20 weeks- can it wait until Monday?

I’m pretty sure I have a UTI. Really painful in my pelvis, constantly need a wee, feel generally rubbish and a bit achy.

GP is closed now until Monday. Can I wait to be seen? I feel like I could survive but is it dangerous to the baby? A&E seems like such an over reaction.

Thanks

Phone your midwife?

Allmarbleslost · 04/11/2022 19:21

No it can't wait til Monday. Phone 111 for an ooh gp appt lovely

marplemead · 04/11/2022 19:21

I wouldn't wait until Monday, but don't think you should have to go to a&e. Can you call the maternity ward at your hospital and ask? That's what I would have done in your situation. They will probably ask you to go in and provide a sample to be tested.

Whoneedsleep · 04/11/2022 19:21

@Denny53 they are closed over the weekend now, I would have to ring the hospital tomorrow. I feel like a bit of a time waster!

No it can't wait. Please don't compromise on your health. I had multiple UTIs during pregnancy and eventually needed to be hospitalised

You can use 111 online if you need to. They will call you back.

BritishDesiGirl · 04/11/2022 19:23

Out of hours GP

SinkingSwim · 04/11/2022 19:23

Use 111 and they should get you seen at a walk in.

Iloveallcats · 04/11/2022 19:24

UTIs can go up to your kidneys which can be serious. You need antibiotics.

Call 111 and/or go to your nearest urgent care centre. You can find your nearest on the NHS website. I went to a 24 hour one when I had a UTI at a weekend.

muddlingthrou · 04/11/2022 19:24

Yes, call 111 and they can get you prescribed antibiotics to pick up. I had the exact same experience when I was in the 2nd trimester a few months ago. UTIs can be serious as they can turn into kidney infections.

validnumber · 04/11/2022 19:26

I had one go to my kidney. Believe me when I say don't wait until Monday!

J1290 · 04/11/2022 19:53

We have ealk in centre till 10pm
111 will advise best place togo
and some pharmacies are really good too

Mrsjayy · 04/11/2022 19:57

Utis can trigger contractions try and get some antibiotics can you call your local maternity ward ? Give 111 a try or a chemist can prescribe 3 days worth of antibiotics don't wait till Monday

Whoneedsleep · 04/11/2022 20:19

Thank you everyone. I’ll ring the hospital midwife tomorrow and see what she suggests. NHS 111 suggested a walk in at a hospital miles and miles away and I don’t feel well enough to drive there tonight!

Did they not give the option of an out of hours gp?

There is a DOS that is navigated - you should be given all of the options if you can't get to the first offered.

If you can't do any of those options then you should receive a callback from a clinician (dependant on local policy)

Nursemumma92 · 04/11/2022 20:27

I would ring your maternity triage line as sometimes UTIs can trigger contractions... very rarely and I'm not posting it to scare you. But just discuss it with them as they may get you to come in there to be checked over and get antibiotics. They may say to wait until tomorrow but it's best to seek their advice now. You should have a phone number on your notes you can call 24/7.

Starlightstarbright1 · 04/11/2022 20:34

If you don't feel well enough to drive definitely need to be seen

mummyh2016 · 04/11/2022 21:17

Definitely not, I had one at 21 weeks and because I didn't get the antibiotics quick enough it spread to my kidneys and I was really poorly. You should have open access to maternity triage once you get to 16 weeks so give them a call.

Ingrainedagainstthegrain · 04/11/2022 21:19

No it shouldn't wait because it could go to your kidneys which you need! This is what doctor on call is for. There are also online GPs if you can afford it.

DaffodilSunshine · 04/11/2022 21:23

Call maternity triage if you're far enough along to be able to access it?

Illbeready · 04/11/2022 21:24

Get checked out as soon as you can. I had one when pregnant and felt so awful until I was given the correct medication.

Whoneedsleep · 05/11/2022 11:41

Thank you everyone. 4 hours in urgent care later and I have some antibiotics. Hopefully they kick in soon!
