Early scan measuring behind?

Hi, I had an early scan today due to a history of recurring early miscarriage, I should be 6 weeks 2 days I’m 100% sure of my dates as we only dtd once and I used opks and temped I also got my bfp at 9dpo! However the lady who scanned me said I’m measuring only 5 1/2 weeks so she will put me as only 5 weeks pregnant even though she said the baby and a really strong heartbeat? I’m really confused is this normal? X

I measured a week behind my estimated dates in my early scans at 5 and 6 weeks. I also had a very early positive pregnancy test (must have been around 8dpo) so it worried me a lot. Had a scan today at 8 weeks and baby has caught up by a few days and the growth is spot-on since the previous scan. The fertilised egg could have implanted a few days later, which would make all the difference. Also, ovulation takes place 24-48 hours after the LH surge. So that could add another day to the timeline if it took a bit longer. Seeing a heartbeat is a good sign. I know the anxiety after loss all too well so I get how you feel. Take each day at a time! Sending you lots of positivity

@RaliaMusca thank you for your reply and congratulations!.. your story has given me hope thank you, it’s just so worrying with previous miscarriages and my age being 39 you constantly find something to worry about lol!. They didn’t seem concerned they said my next scan would be my 12 week one, but I won’t be able to wait that long so think I’m going to book an 8 week one privately xx

It's not unusual for early scan measurements to be off. They're measuring in mm so even the slightest bit off makes a difference. Good luck for your next scan x

I had my 12 week scan last week at 11+6 but measured 11+3. They've kept my EDD based on first day of my last period. Going back next week for another scan as they couldn't get all the measurements. Baby had a good heartbeat and was wriggling around. I was slightly anxious about this but on reading up more I think it's fairly common for it not to be spot on

I think they can be a little inaccurate that early on. I had a scan at 7 weeks exactly from my lmp, but because I'd been tracking ovulation I knew I was a few days behind that. I expected to be around 6 and a half weeks but they measured me at 5/6 weeks. I wasn't too worried as I expected to be a bit behind but I was surprised it was by so much. Anyway, roll on my 12 week scan (expecting to be at most 11+3) but I was actually measuring 12+3! So at some point over those next 4 weeks my baby had actually jumped ahead in size even from my lmp 🤷 I don't understand how it all works but as long as you saw a strong heartbeat I wouldn't worry about the fine details at this stage! It all changes so quick

Hi all,

sorry to jump on this post…

looking for some advice or past experiences. Im currently 6 weeks pregnant after a 5day embryo transfer. Went for an early scan but was measuring a few days less than I should have been. Sac and embryo were both seen but no heartbeat.

The clinic wasnt very reassuring and told me to test again in two weeks and book another scan if still BFP….

could I have had a miscarriage and not know due to IVF meds?
