Oven cleaner fumes - freaking out!

I don't know if I'm overreacting here so grateful for any advice!

I'm 7 weeks pregnant and my husband wanted to deep clean our oven today. He used an oven cleaner that contains sodium hydroxide which apparently is odourless.

We live in a flat, I was in the bedroom at the time with the window open, he didn't open the windows in the kitchen... Bedroom is just across the hall.

I went out for some fresh air when I realised which was about an hour after. All doors and windows were then opened. He rinsed out the oven and then turned it on to full heat which apparently is necessary to burn out the chemicals. This smelled horrendous despite all windows doors open.

I'm now sat in the car, quietly seething and very worried. Everything I have read says exposure to these fumes can lead to birth defects etc. Has anyone else had experience with this? Am I worrying too much or have I just ruined everything?

You're worrying too much. It's vanishingly unlikely that a short exposure to these chemicals will do any harm.

I moved house at 8 weeks pregnant and had to finish the oven cleaning. I was very anxious in pregnancy but ever sensible thing I read said it was fine (DS is 6 now and fine)
