Nine days past due date today, had 2 sweeps- the first at 41 weeks she said I was 1cm dilated and she could feel baby's head/ waters, today the midwife said it was unsuccessful and she couldn't advance her fingers and the cervix was still thick and long 😫😫 Another sweep booked for Monday and I'll decide next week whether I'll have an induction or not...anyone been in this situation and been able to go on and have an uncomplicated birth without C-section/ instrumental delivery? I'm beginning to lose hope 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

I didn't want to read but I don't have any personal experience - sorry. I just wanted to wish you luck with your next sweep and hope this time it's successful. 🤞🏻 Meanwhile, maybe try some of the old wives tales, if you haven't already, such as walking, spicy foods, sex, bouncing on a birthing ball, nipple stimulation and eating pineapple.

My first was 12 days overdue. 3 sweeps.
I wasn't induced (this was 11 years ago, I think they let you go a bit longer then).
Had a very easy, straightforward birth in the pool. No instruments and no medication.
Fingers crossed for you Smile

My first was 4 days late
2nd, 14 days late (2 sweeps)
3rd, 16 days late, 7 million sweeps, pessary, ARM, finally dragged out

Sending you lots of luck, being late sucks

ZEWatson · 29/10/2022 16:28

Ah yes, forgot to say- tried EVERY old wives tale. Having sex, eating pineapple, dates, raspberry tea, spicy food+curry, been on the pump since 36weeks, still running and swimming 3X per week and walking on days I'm not doing that...even did parkrun this morning to no avail

Try acupuncture! I went into labour the next day with that xx

MummyJ36 · 29/10/2022 19:28

First DD was born at 42 weeks exactly. I had two sweeps in the week leading up to going into labour. The second sweep was more successful as I relaxed a bit more and within 24 hours I was in early labour. If you’re mobile then do keep walking around as much as poss. I had terrible SPD which rendered me almost totally housebound and I always had a suspicion DD was late because I couldn’t move much.

As another PP said try acupuncture if you can and if you’re open to alternatives then homeopathy can also sometimes help get things moving.

My waters were broken at 40+11 and three unsuccessful sweeps. Baby born 7 hours later and totally magical. Good luck!

RoseAndGeranium · 29/10/2022 19:47

Both mine were 10 days over. With the second my cervix was still only 1cm dilated 6 hours before she came out! I know it’s next to impossible but try to relax. Tell yourself it won’t be tonight so you may as well get a good rest, have a nice comforting dinner, cuddle up with DP in front of a feel good movie and enjoy what may well be your last bit of time baby free for a while.

bumbledeedum · 29/10/2022 19:50

No quite as late but my second didn't seem keen to be born, flipped position at 40+6, section booked, was utter fed up, went into labour naturally that evening and he arrived about 5 hours later. Very straight forward labour and delivery. Was home less than 12 hours after arriving at the hospital.

Is this your first? I know you're fed up but give yourself a chance to rest too

nannync · 29/10/2022 20:13

Baby isn't ready. Go for your sweep and pray it works.

Whatever you can do to create oxytocin at home, sex, skin to skin with your partner, low lights, candles. Whatever you need to feel safe and relaxed.

If you knew the state of maternity services in the uk over the last few weeks you'd be avoiding induction at all costs.

Buttons0522 · 29/10/2022 20:22

12 days over with my second born, wonderful home birth in the pool.

I had two sweeps. The first did nothing. The second one was a midwife I knew well who said she could do a sweep or a “really good” sweep and I almost climbed off the top of the bed but it worked!! She said I must have a high pain threshold. We were trying to avoid me having to attend the other hospital at the opposite end of the county for induction!

Remember that you can say no to induction!

Good luck, you’ve got this!!

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 29/10/2022 20:33

11 days (induced) and 13 days overdue (sweep) for me

Babies come when they're ready and some just take longer to cook

The one that came naturally was a brilliant birth, gentle and slow until ready and then over and done with very quickly. Had a nice day at home watching movies with my tens machine on, a takeaway. Baby born 12 mins after arriving at hospital, without much pain.

WalkingOnSonshine · 29/10/2022 20:35

DS was born at 42 weeks after two sweeps. I was induced but it was a positive experience - he was born 11 hours after my waters broke without any intervention.

blondieminx · 29/10/2022 20:43

Being overdue is so frustrating.

is anything in the back of your mind stressing you out?
