Spotting after bowel movements

Does anyone else experience spotting after bowel movements? I’m 7 weeks and managing constipation fairly well but sometimes it can get pretty uncomfortable. I’ve had spotting on two occasions. The first I put down to implantation bleeding. But last night, the second episode, was heavier and it’s too late for an implantation bleed so it’s worrying me. Will call PAU first thing as I was there last week and am due back next week but wondered about others and their experiences. I’ve never had this in any of my pregnancies. I did have IVF and have read that spotting is common in this scenario. But not clear on why!

Hi @MyEasterEggs

I had IVF pregnancy as well and had dark brown spotting on-off from week 8-16, had 3-4 scans done in that period and was told by the consultant that it’s very normal to have spotting when you’re on progesterone suppositories. Baby is now 5 months 🙏🏻

What color is your spotting? Are you on progesterone?

Thanks @K2012 and congrats on the safe arrival of your LO ☺️

The first episode was very light pink spotting, the tiniest speck, but last night was deeper in colour and mixed with mucus. I thought it was the start of a miscarriage.

The PAU think it’s due to so much blood being around my cervix with it being quite vascular. And they mentioned progesterone but I do them rectally since I have a history of UTIs.

My cervix is closed and there’s no sign of bleeding in my womb or around baby. All was looking good with measurements and heartbeat too so I’m relieved 💛

I had spotting on and off every few weeks, it was SO scary. They never found out why. I was told I was super vascular as you've been told.
Brown, pink, purple and red blood. Never heavy/flowing. I had lots of scans as I was paranoid - 1/3 women will spot during pregnancy at least once xx

@zara5897 you see I’ve been pregnant multiple times and never experienced spotting. So it’s terrifying. I think I need to keep reminding myself that maybe, since this pregnancy is different to those I lost, it’s perhaps a positive sign this time. Anything to get me into a better state of mind 💛

I had this, I believe in my case it was due to a cervical ectropian. I also had bleeding after sex. I’d had an ectropian years before which was cauterised and went away but apparently they get bigger and more blood filled in pg due to the hormones. Then pressure from passing a BM or friction from sex can make it bleed.

zara5897 · 28/10/2022 20:22

@MyEasterEggs they gave me progesterone. Have you had your levels checked? I started the progesterone 7 weeks but it didn't stop the bleeding. I still spotting on and off all the way through. So did a couple other girls in my mumsnet due date group.

If I were you, for mental health and peace of mind, ask ask ask for scans tests etc. it really messed with my mental health and baby is 4 months and I'm still affected by it x

@zara5897 I’ve had scans at 6 weeks and now 7 weeks so all good on that front. I didn’t really want to have them more than bi-weekly if I could avoid it so next booked for 10 weeks unless I have any problems between now and then. Asked them to do a swab and urine test today for extra peace of mind as I may have had later losses due to infection. Hopefully all comes back clear. I could potentially get progesterone checked again but it’s been way above 100 since I started prontogest before FET and it’s been tested a few times. I’m on so many drugs I’m not stew if I could do more 😩🙃

@minipie thanks for sharing. That’s come up on an infertility thread I’m on so I’ll look into it.

@MyEasterEggs Great to hear your scan went well 🙏🏻

I did the progesterone suppositories rectally as well and still had spotting for 8 weeks 🤷🏻‍♀️

Currrently 4 weeks pregnant after a recent miscarriage and spotting when I poo. Anyone experienced this? Panicking as this is how it started last time and I went on to lose it :(

pambeasly · 29/01/2023 20:19

I did on and off throughout my entire pregnancy. The spotting was every shade, pink, red, purple, orange, happened every 3 weeks or so. Never found a cause and all was well. Try not to panic and if you're really anxious, like I was, ask for an early scan based on pain or something. X
