Please help me, me and my boyfriend had unprotected sex yesterday and I'm not sure how this works. I last had my period almost a month ago from now and it is regular, how likely is it for me to get pregnant?

How many days is your cycle? For most people the fertile window is in the middle of your cycle and lasts just for a few days, so if you have unprotected sex just before your period is due then it’s unlikely you’d get pregnant but not impossible.

It is possible you could conceive if you've had unprotected sex. It is impossible to say how likely as you aren't tracking ovulation or BBT, etc but if you are due your period soon then it could be unlikely but not impossible.

My cycle is 28 days long. So my chances of conceiving are considerably low? Are there any signs of pregnancy I should look out for just incase? @Oblongogo

When's your period due? It sounds like it will be soon. Early pregnancy is very similar to PMS, so hard to tell unless your period is late. Tbh it sounds like you're going to be fine.

Chemistree · 26/10/2022 20:42

@BackOnTheBandWagon It usually happens at the end of the month or beginning of the next month, I'm not sure of exactly when it would be. But I do think my period is a bit later than usual. I really do hope I will be though, this is honestly scaring me so much.

you might find it helpful to download a cycle tracking app where you can record your periods and it will tell you how many days your cycle is etc, a late period and positive pregnancy test is really the only reliable sign of early pregnancy

If you had unprotected sex and you don't want to get pregnant, get the morning after pill.

If you only had unprotected sex yesterday there is zero chance it's impact the timing of your period.

To get pregnant you have to have sex around ovulation, usually in the middle of your cycle, so day 14 if your cycle is 28 days. The soonest you'd be able to get a positive pregnancy test is around 7 days later, but more like 10-14 days for most women.

@Oblongogo I did download the app Flo just a few days before everything but I wasn't able to start tracking because I couldn't remember the exact day my period happened. But I'll wait around to see if it happens soon. Today I did notice a bit of blood but I'm not sure if it's period or if it's something else.

@dontbringthatbirdinhere the thing is, here you can't exactly get the pills without a doctor's prescription and well, it's not exactly possible for me or my boyfriend to go to the doctor.
So I can ( mostly ) expect my period to come just as usual?
And basically the probability of conceiving is higher during ovulation?
Thank you so much for your answer though, it's been quite a bit stressful and this does make me feel a bit better, I'll hope my period does happen soon.

Where roughly are you based op? Most morning after pills are available over the counter at the chemist but at a cost (at least they are in UK). If you're worried and you don't want to take a risk on it you would be best phoning your GP and asking for advice from them. They might be able to get your local chemist to collect your prescription from the gp so you'd just need to pick it up from the chemist rather than making two journeys. They should also be bound by confidentiality if you're worried about others finding out?
