Pregnancy after IVF

Hi all, I didn’t see a thread for pregnancy after IVF here, but I am 6 weeks 4 days and it’s been a long journey. We had been trying for four years. This is our second IVF cycle. Our first ended in miscarriage (empty gestational sac at 6 week scan). Today we saw our little bean’s heartbeat and it was such a beautiful moment. Just thought it’d be nice to celebrate our pregnancies with fellow IVF warriors!

Advise please….

Ive just had my first round of IVF with a frozen transfer and have been testing since 5dp5dt the line has progressed with each test but I’m now 14dpt and still having cramps and bloating (Still strong BFP).

The pain isn’t unbearable and feel often feels like a dull pain. I don't have sore boobs or any other real symptoms. I worried it could be chemical or early miscarriage. Should I still be having noticeable cramps mainly at night but sometimes on and off through the day.

Anyone else had this?

KitchenSupper · 26/10/2022 18:56

I had a mild dull ache basically the whole pregnancy (after IVF), though it’s less noticeable once their movements are perceptible. Everything is stretching and it’s a little uncomfortable.

IVFandus · 26/10/2022 19:01

Thank you for your reply.

I panic with every pain I’m having and cant shift the thought its not going well. I thought i would be content with just a BFP but its caused more worry then before I tested.

I’ve had horrible bloating in the first trimester with both my pregnancies. I told barely eat anything without feeling uncomfortable. My first was IVF so I put it down to all the hormones I was taking but I’ve also had it in this natural pregnancy.

Cramps can also be normal as things start to stretch. I don’t really remember any in my first but I really felt them in my second.

Does your clinic do HCG testing? That really put my mind at rest in those first few days after seeing my bfp. Surprisingly I actually found the first trimester of my IVF pregnancy caused a lot more stress and anxiety than the actual IVF treatment. It does get easier though!

IVFandus · 26/10/2022 20:15

Thank you 😊 Unfortunately they don't do HCG testing instead I'm spending a small fortune on pregnancy tests which is probably silly.

I think my biggest fear is not knowing for if its ok as the IVF medication would stop any periods.

also haven't had sore boobs which apparently the biggest sign of pregnancy 😩

@sailinginthemed
Congratulations I'm
17 weeks with a second full cycle IVF baby.

How are you feeling- it still feels surreal to me.

X

@IVFandus

On my failed cycle my period showed up with a vengeance whilst still on meds.

I know how your feeling though, I was the same I tested every day until the test line started stealing the control line dye and then once a week after for 4 weeks. I'm 17 weeks now and it still feels surreal. X

Hello! I’m pregnant with twins after over 4 years of trying and on our 3rd cycle of IVF. 14 weeks now and the morning sickness appears to be receding a bit. The IVF bit is increasing my anxiety and my age -l will be 43 when they are born.

Hospital seem to be taking my age, IVF and twins into account. I am already on 150mg of aspirin each night despite blood pressure being good so far. It’s a preventative measure for pre-eclampsia

Northtosouth · 27/10/2022 14:05

Hi everyone
I’m 10 weeks after our first FET (feeling very lucky). Congratulations to you all! How is everyone feeling ?

Has everyone had a consultant appointment? I had one come through the post, midwife said it was standard with IVF which I didn’t know. I really don’t know what to expect at it?

@EL8888 congrats on your twins! That’s good they’ve put preventative measures in place so early too.
@IVFandus I had period like cramps for about 2 weeks after my BFP , I was convinced it was my period coming. I don’t think my boobs were sore or I had any symptoms until about week 6. Fingers crossed for you X

Dueinjan23 · 27/10/2022 21:30

@IVFandus I had spotting the night before we got our BFP and then for two days after really bad cramps. I actually paid extra for the HCG blood test as my clinic didn’t do them really but all was good and I am now 27 weeks (it still doesn’t feel real!!). The cramping, I think, is normal as everything is stretching and making room but I also have a low placenta so not sure if that had anything to do with why the cramps were so bad. I hope everything is well. Do not go mad on tests, they will mess with your head. I pee’d on a stick once and had two blood tests and then left it for the scans. I think I would have put too much emphasis on the strength of the line other wise.

congrats to everyone!

Dueinjan23 · 27/10/2022 21:32

Ps. @IVFandus like @Northtosouth i had no pregnancy symptoms until 6 weeks and I convinced my husband it hadn’t worked due to lack of any but then the morning sickness hit!

@Northtosouth yes I've been referred to a consultant. It's because they don't like IVF pregancies to go over 40 weeks. They know the exact date of conception so know the baby is ready :) nothing to worry about :)
