Rat infestation LCMV panic (I’m spiralling)

Guys I’m going out of my mind.
We found out a number of weeks ago we have rats under out bath (smell was awful).
They aren’t coming out from the bath but the droppings were significant underneath.
The landlord tried to sort but they came back and is coming tomorrow with pest control to sort so now I’ve had to confess I’m pregnant (5+5) because of cleaning chemicals.
I was poorly from week 2 to the end of week 3 of my pregnancy.
I tested positive for the flu on the 5th of October 3 weeks bang on but two and a bit weeks seems drawn out for a flu.
Now panicking myself I also had LCMV (read awful things about birth defects and landlord was using some of my cleaning equipment (we did spray after but didn’t bleach).
I’m spiralling reading about the awful birth defects 😭 has anyone had a similar situation with rats or mice in London? Also am I just being paranoid? I had no sickness but symptoms are v similar to flu.

Hi I’m going through a similar situation with rats in my kitchen. I’m extremely worried re the rats may have had an impact on baby. How are you?

firsttimelondonmummy · 14/12/2022 18:17

@Infertilityishard we managed to sort the problem but we’ve decided to move out.
luckily everything looks great so far with little one (I’m just over 13 weeks).

You are right to take this very seriously, rats carry Weils disease.

@Infertilityishard we didn’t move out just for that so try not to let it panic you. Also Weils is incredibly rare (see attached and below) doubt you’re licking the wee or putting your hand directly into it.

The Weil's disease form of leptospirosis is contracted from the urine of infected rats. The bacteria get into your body through cuts and scratches or through the lining of the mouth, throat and eyes after contact with infected urine or contaminated water.

Ours were trapped under the bath so a bit less worrisome but try not to get yourself in too much of a spin like I did.
Do however get it sorted ASAP.
