I’m almost 12 weeks. Keep fancying Coke Zero daily. I have a can a day lately the last week or two. Just wondering if this is okay or should be avoided?

Yes it is fine as long as you keep below 200mg of caffeine per day. You can buy caffeine free Pepsi max which is really good and tastes the same, and think you can get caffeine free Coke Zero too so might be better to have that to avoid the caffeine.

I loved a cold fizzy drink in early pregnancy but then found it too gassy and filling so stopped.

Coke Zero Sugar contains 2.83 mg of caffeine per fl oz (9.58 mg per 100 ml). A 12 fl oz can has a total of 34 mg of caffeine.

I'm not sure what the research says but I've been avoiding artificial sweeteners altogether whilst pregnant (I didn't like having them before either). I don't think they do us any good and I would rather not take the risk when pregnant, but that's just my personal opinion. Maybe someone else will post with some scientific reasons.

@MRSE20 you can drive yourself crazy with what and what not to do.
I think as @OrcaBlondie said caffeine free is a great suggestion.
Alternatively one here and there.
Balance is key and do what feels right for you!

It's absolutely fine x either drink caffeine free, or just keep an eye on your caffeine consumption when you have it 😊

Aquamarine1029 · 23/10/2022 16:19

I would stay well away due to the artificial sweeteners. They are pure rubbish.

Skala123 · 23/10/2022 16:36

Artificial sweeteners aren't as bad as they've been billed to be. Dig into the research and it was done on rats and they were given something like 2000 times the recommended daily amount for humans. Hardly surprising the results were that AS are bad for you!!

dementedpixie · 23/10/2022 16:39

Drink whatever fizzy drinks you want. Keep an eye on caffeine levels or drink caffeine free. I never avoided artificial sweeteners

Soubriquet · 23/10/2022 16:39

I pretty much lived on Aldi lemonade. Was the only thing I could keep down

daisy46 · 23/10/2022 16:41

I would stay away from artificial sweeteners -- have a Coke if you fancy one!

Thank you everyone for your replies

I think I’ll look into the artificial sweeteners and also will cut down to maybe one or two a week rather than daily!
