Hi everyone I have a big celebration tonight with family. I know just recommend not to drink at all
I'm 22 weeks Almost 23 weeks would you or have you had say an Alcapop or small wine or something when celebrating I don't smoke and I haven't touched alcohol since I found out. What's your thoughts?

In your instance, I probably wouldn't.

I was very sociable before falling pregnant, and still socialiss now but just in a different way, I personally don't think 1 glass of wine or alcopop will enhance your evening enough to warrant even wondering whether you should do it or not.

With my first child, when I was about 40 weeks pregnant my midwife suggested I had a glass of red wine, I think her thought was to relax me and bring on labour. But that was 1 glass of wine when I hadn't had any alcohol since finding out. I did have that one glass but basically nursed it over an entire evening at home.

Now I'm pregnant again, I won't be drinking at all because I really don't see the point, especially if you're questioning your decision surrounding it.

I don't understand why you need to have an alcoholic drink to be social. Have a non alcoholic drink and be social...

It's not worth the risk. I didn't drink a drop whilst trying, whilst pregnant or breast feeding but I still socialised

@yvonneb13 sorry, i don't think you can use personal experiences of people who have smoked in pregnancy (and their child is 'fine') to compare with alcohol, at all. The impact of smoking is hidden in the blood stream and lungs. You can't see it but it is well researched.

The only similarity with alcohol is it can be a hidden impact. Your body can filter alcohol from the blood stream. It is harder for a foetus to do that and alcohol can create a 'reservoir' in the placenta. That's why there is no known safe amount as it isn't ethical to test it. If you want a drink, have a drink but knowing that there is no evidence truly for how safe it is. That's a decision only you can make.

Wishing you very happy celebrations, whatever you decide.

Why would you risk this over 1 or 2 drinks and as for people saying some didn't know they were pregnant and drank at the beginning that was before the placenta took over and therefore no alcohol was stored there.

i wouldn’t worry about being social, I doubt many women are in situation where they feel socially obliged to drink when pregnant

@yvonneb13 it’s great we have so many non alc options now would definitely suggest checking them out 😊
I believe you can get beer, wine, cider and spirits all 0.0% now!
Just keep your eye out as some are a pesky 0.5% (Lucky Saint is one) also I heard you can’t drink Tonic unless it’s quinine free? It’s a minefield 😭

Lolllll 0.05 is fine 😭😭😭

Thanks for your reply I'm just thinking of having 1 to be social I know so many people
Who have had babies and still continued
Smoking normally and everything was fine surly that's worse than a low alcohol cider or something x

It sounds like you’re surrounded by idiots and it’s clouding your judgement. Smoking during pregnancy is a terrible thing to do and suggests that they continue smoking once the baby is born. Poor kids.
