Hi everyone I have a big celebration tonight with family. I know just recommend not to drink at all
I'm 22 weeks Almost 23 weeks would you or have you had say an Alcapop or small wine or something when celebrating I don't smoke and I haven't touched alcohol since I found out. What's your thoughts?

I haven’t and wouldn’t. But it’s okay if you want to.

DramaAlpaca · 22/10/2022 15:05

I wouldn't and didn't.

CSR721 · 22/10/2022 15:06

I wouldn't advise as obv I'm not a professional and I haven't drank at all through my pregnancy BUT I do know lots of women who have had a glass of wine or two throughout and been absolutely fine x

Hohofortherobbers · 22/10/2022 15:06

It's probably OK but it's not recommended so why bother? 1 alcopop is hardly going to enhance your evening.

Cantbebotheredwithchores · 22/10/2022 15:06

Only you can decide. You've said it's not recommended. So there is your answer.

I couldn't have something, knowing I shouldn't and if anything went wrong I would blame myself for having that drink. In the grand scheme of things and people in other countries have small amounts of alcohol. But it was never a risk I could take

EmsChels94 · 22/10/2022 15:10

Personally, I didn’t - however I know friends who had a bottle of WKD or a small glass of wine once a week and they’re babies turned out fine. The decision is entirely up to you, the same as if you want to eat foods that the guidelines say to avoid.

I still went out few times when I was pregnant, and most of them did alcohol free ciders (kopperberg mainly) and alcohol free beers. Some bars also also did 0.0% Gordon’s Gin and Nosecco too! If you’re craving the taste. Cheaper also, which is always good.

I hope you have a good night! :) x

I know but I know so many people who smoke and have never had issue and that's "not recommended"

Totally your choice but I wouldn’t risk it, for the sake of one drink I don’t know why it would be worth it…

Thanks for your reply I'm just thinking of having 1 to be social I know so many people
Who have had babies and still continued
Smoking normally and everything was fine surly that's worse than a low alcohol cider or something x

@yvonneb13 I love a drink at the weekend and I’ve found as @EmsChels94 mentioned that 0.0%’s have really helped my cravings specifically the Heineken (I’m a beer fan) my close friend said the gin was great too!

bigfamilygrowingupfast · 22/10/2022 15:15

I'm sure it's fine to have one - having said that wine and beer tastes absolutely revolting to me! (I too am currently 22 weeks). On holiday I was really craving a beer and literally had a sip of my husbands and was absolutely repulsed 🤣

Cantbebotheredwithchores · 22/10/2022 15:16

My view is the same with smoking.
It does cause damage to baby, affect the placenta, nicotine crosses placenta, make babies small for gestational age.

wannarunfromitall · 22/10/2022 15:18

Have a pint. Have two. Babe will be absolutely fine. Drink lots of water as you'll feel a bit rotten later / the next morning!

Doomsayers on MN as usual.

WhereIam · 22/10/2022 15:18

I would and have.

Definitely don't drink enough to 'feel rotten'.

Cantbebotheredwithchores · 22/10/2022 15:19

I also know someone who smoked throughout pregnancy and had a really poorly baby, who is now 4 and still has a tracheostomy.

I know someone who smoked throughout pregnancy and had a really healthy baby who is now a national-level champion in a sport.

firsttimelondonmummy · 22/10/2022 15:24

@yvonneb13 it’s great we have so many non alc options now would definitely suggest checking them out 😊
I believe you can get beer, wine, cider and spirits all 0.0% now!
Just keep your eye out as some are a pesky 0.5% (Lucky Saint is one) also I heard you can’t drink Tonic unless it’s quinine free? It’s a minefield 😭

Cantbebotheredwithchores · 22/10/2022 15:24

@WhereIam and??? My mother was born to a smoker and she was SGA.
The OP knows it's not recommended, neither is smoking so why ask on the internet for us to go 'ahh yeah go ahead!' To stop feeling the guilt. Comparing one drink to all the evidence of smoking in fertility and pregnancy isn't a comparison and don't know why the OP brought that up.
There's women who haven't taken any risks in pregnancy and have lost babies. It's all about managing risk

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 22/10/2022 15:25

you don’t need to drink alcohol to be social, pregnant or not.

Well she's clearly not infertile as she is 22 weeks pregnant.

It's all bunkum. Most of it.

Bucksfar86 · 22/10/2022 15:26

If you're only going to have one to be social what's the point? You could have a glass of orange and be just as social?
Also if there's people there who know your pregnant there will likely be comments or judgements made.
I personally wouldn't, but it's obviously your choice and not for anyone else to make for you

WhereIam · 22/10/2022 15:27

@Cantbebotheredwithchores That's the point.

Cantbebotheredwithchores · 22/10/2022 15:30

@WhereIam it affects egg quality and DNA. So not necessarily make you infertile but affect genetics.
Believe what ever you want it being nonsense.
But when it comes to bringing another human into the world and you aren't just looking after your body, your responsible for another life also.
So why bother knowingly take the risk??
