Hello all,

As per the title, I am 10 weeks pregnant and got up during the night for a wee and there was brown blood when I wiped.

Anyone experienced this? I am so so scared 😔

I believe brown blood can be fine as it's old blood. Have a quick Google, in this case I think it'll be more reassuring than worrying.

With pregnancy the blood to be concerned about is usually red. Not pink or brown.

Good luck.

BabyMoonPie · 22/10/2022 07:35

I had the same and baby was fine (so fine she's nearly 6 years old!).

Usually brown blood is old blood and nothing to worry about and red blood is fresh and a concern.

Have you had your bookinv appointment yet? If you have ring your midwife for reassurance

I actually had my booking appointment on Monday passed. I was given a number for EPU but they are Monday - Friday. I have been given a number for the Gynaecology Ward to use for out of hours so not sure if I should give them a call?

I'm sure everything is okay but I've been going through netmums for about 2 hours now and some have experienced this and had positive outcomes and others have sadder stories to tell 😔

Have you had any more, is it changing colour? If not, I would personally wait and see. If so, definitely ring the ward and see what they say.

The main thing is, you know your own body and if you're worried, call the professionals. They will advise the best

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 22/10/2022 09:37

If it doesn't increase or change colour I wouldn't call yet. Good signs would be if it tails off and stays brown, bad would be fresh red bloods, clots, and increased bleeding

Thank you for all your replies.

There's been more, every time I wipe, so I've called out of hours as EPU is Monday - Friday and I'm waiting on a call back.

Been told to keep an eye and if it gets heavier and red/fresh blood then get myself up to A&E.

I'll keep this thread updated with how I get on xx

I've had similar today but at 7 weeks. I rang my midwife number and they said to go to A&E if I start bleeding a lot with red blood.

I also rang EPU, my trust's one is open on Saturday morning. They said the same as the midwives. The midwife said brown blood is very common in early pregnancy so that made me feel a bit better.

It was a nasty shock this morning and I was very scared. Starting to feel a bit calmer now I've spoken to someone and have a nice cup of tea.

How're you feeling OP?

Nejnej2 · 22/10/2022 10:36

I had brown/red blood at 13 weeks - just on wiping, but it felt like a lot. My dating scan was luckily the next day, and all was fine. Now 34 weeks!
It is super common, and absolutely terrifying. Don't be afraid to go in if things are getting worse though

CSR721 · 22/10/2022 15:09

I had brown bleeding once at 5 weeks or so, and again around 15/16 weeks I think. I rang the maternity assessment unit and they said unless it turns red it's nothing to worry about. They didn't even ask to see me. All was fine and I'm 38w now x

Babyghirl · 22/10/2022 15:57

Not to worry you or alarm you I had this with 4 pregnancies and each one ended in miscarriages, hope your outcome is a better one than mine xx

Northtosouth · 22/10/2022 17:23

I had quite a lot of brown blood when wiping at 6 and 8 weeks (I’m now 10 weeks). I’ve had scans at 6,7 and 9 weeks (very paranoid) and everything is fine.
When speaking to midwife she said if there’s no pain and it stays brown not to worry. Fingers crossed it’s nothing to worry about, I know how worrying it is to see. X

cakeislife1234 · 22/10/2022 18:18

I had the same, lots of brown blood wiping for about 5 days when I was 11 weeks. All was fine, it was an old bleed (probably implantation) and took a while to come out, so old blood.

My daughter is now 2 and thriving. Wishing you the best of luck, but try not to worry. My midwife basically said if it's brown don't let it panic you too much xxx
