Cervical length during pregnancy

Hello lovelies

Just looking to see if anyone has been under consultant to have their cervical length checked through pregnancy?

I had my first appointment today at 15+3 and cervical length was 28.9mm. Consultant seemed pleased and have been referred for another check in 2 weeks time. She said anything below 25mm would be a concern.

Has anyone been on the lower end of the scale like me and managed to carry full term with no intervention?

I'm under the care of the prematurity clinic after a precious early birth/loss at 23 weeks. My cervix has usually come in around 3, but like you they have always been clear the cut off when they start to worry / consider interventions was 2.5.

I am on progesterone as well (not sure if you are)

Once you're over 18 weeks, they might be able to to the fetal fibronectin swabs. The results from this, combined with cervical length give a really good indication if likely to go into prem labour.

I'm also interested in this thread, mine measured 28mm yesterday and I was told
I'll have another scan in 4 weeks.
Like you they didn't seem concerned but interested to hear others stories x

DBS94 · 21/10/2022 19:17

@gemms7 how many weeks are you? I was told I'll get another measurement in two weeks and then again my 20 week scan (2 weeks after that). If all is well and it's still measuring the same I was told they'd sign me off x

I did carry to full term however I did have intervention.
I had a cervix length of 2cm at 22 weeks but was too late for a stitch as was dilated.
I had small rubber ring put around my cervix to keep it closed and did bed rest from 22 weeks to 37.
I had the ring removed at 37 weeks and she arrived about a week later.
I would recommend intervention for sure if they offer it x

DBS94 · 21/10/2022 19:23

@Lillybobs86 had the length dropped from earlier in your pregnancy or was 22 weeks the first measurement you got? X

@DBS94 this was my first scan at 17 weeks so will have another around 21 weeks. I'm also using cyclogest daily until 30+ weeks.
Really hope the measurements haven't shortened at the next scan, fingers crossed yours are still fine aswell Smile xx

Flowerfairy101 · 21/10/2022 19:35

Mine dropped to 24mm at about 18 weeks and I was offered the stitch or progesterone. Chose progesterone and had DD at 34 weeks after my waters went. I probably wouldn't have had the stitch if I could go back in time but I would have sat down a lot more! Once I got to 24 weeks so viability gestation they stopped all cervical length monitoring.

DBS94 · 21/10/2022 19:41

@Flowerfairy101 what did yours drop from? X

I think it was in normal range before this.
I was in a position where I had weekly 4D scans and they didn't say anything previous to this so I presume it has changed during those few days.
When I look back I was over doing it carrying and lifting a lot of things and quite stressed so I think that may that been the cause x

Flowerfairy101 · 21/10/2022 19:58

I think it was 26mm at 16 weeks, I had fortnightly scans to monitor it.

OctopusBreath · 21/10/2022 20:00

Interested in this thread as my cervical length was very slightly short after two LLETZ treatments in the year before I became pregnant. I've been on 2 progesterone pessaries a day since then (am 24 weeks now.) They'll check again in a month or so.

DBS94 · 31/10/2022 16:39

Sorry @OctopusBreath just seen your post. What length is yours currently? I'm got my next scan on Friday and feeling nervous. I need to stay away from Dr Google it just adds to the anxiety
