Hey guys...

I am currently 10 weeks pregnant but havnt received an appointment yet for my 12 week scan. Should it have been in by now?

Have you had your booking appointment with a midwife yet? My scan letters always arrived after I'd seen the midwife first, I think that generates the scan to come through

lilroo87 · 21/10/2022 11:02

Congratulations by the way

Irishgirl55 · 21/10/2022 11:07

I have had nothing but a self referral to the hospital - and thank you. :)

Oh. I've always filled a form online for a midwife team and then they've called me and had a booking appointment.
I would probably try and find a number to chase them up. My first pregnancy, everything was behind because they didn't know what team I needed and I ended up chasing them. This fine it's been fine.

CSR721 · 21/10/2022 13:08

I agree with @lilroo87 I would chase up your community midwives. You should have a booking in appointment around 8 or 9 weeks and then you'd receive your scan appointment in the post x

NCFT0922 · 21/10/2022 13:23

It gets booked after your booking appointment. Why did you self refer to the hospital? You need to call your gp to book to see the midwife.

Thats not true for many places now. I had to self refer to the hospital. Gps here have nothing to do with pregnancy.

PointyMcguire · 21/10/2022 13:29

I had my booking in appointment at almost 11wks, and 12wk scan at 13+6. If you’ve not had a date for your booking in appointment yet it wouldn’t harm to chase it up just in case.

Nursemumma92 · 21/10/2022 14:56

Yes definitely chase up with who you made your self referral to as it should have been passed to community midwives by now. They need to do your 'booking' appointment and then that will get you onto system to have 12 week scan etc x

Don’t you have community midwife’s? GPS don’t have anything to do with a pregnancy, no, but the surgery is where community midwives are based in most trusts.

Yes but to access the community midwife you have to call the hospital direct and refer yourself and then they assign you a community midwife. Here if you call a gp they just give you the number for the maternity hospital and tell you to refer yourself.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 21/10/2022 16:25

Normally you self refer to community midwives not the hospital? Definitely chase up as you should have had booking in appointment by now and appointment through for 12 week scan.

Crimsonripple · 21/10/2022 16:33

You do have to self refer now to your hospital. Then the community midwife will call you to arrange your appointment. My GP surgery no longer does the appointments. I have received my 12 week scan date already but haven't spoken to a midwife yet. I would chase it up.

NCFT0922 · 21/10/2022 16:37

@AutumnScream ah ok, must be different here. We have to call our GP surgery who then gets the midwife to call us to book the booking appointment. Would be easier if it was the same everywhere!

AutumnScream · 21/10/2022 17:19

@NCFT0922 yeah its so weird how every trust seems to do the exact opposite of each other. When i lived down south everyone called the gp but up here its the hospital for some reason.

Op i would definitely call who you booked in with again and chase it up.

lmw88 · 22/10/2022 08:39

@Irishgirl55 are you in NI? I’m from NI I self referred when I found out I was pregnant and got my booking scan for 11+6 (next Thursday 😬) I got my letter about 2 weeks after I referred. I was almost 5 weeks when I referred myself in…might be best giving them a shout to make sure you’ve not been missed. England seem to do things a little differently it seems.

Irishgirl55 · 22/10/2022 10:16

yes in Northern Ireland! Where are you booked into? I'll give them
a phone on Monday and chase it up. In self referred when I was 6 weeks so I def thought I'd have had one in by now!

totally different from my first pregnancy as I was seen for a early preg scan as I didn't know how far along I was.

Irishgirl55 · 22/10/2022 10:19

In Northern Ireland we have a booking appointment and scan at the same time (in my trust anyway). We can either get referred through a Gp or we self refer. Don't see a community midwife until after the 20 week scan (from memory, could be earlier) but definitely not before you have the first scan!

Irishgirl55 · 24/10/2022 15:53

lmw88 · 24/10/2022 17:33

@Irishgirl55 good stuff saves all the chasing up. Not too long to wait

Irishgirl55 · 24/10/2022 19:48

No thankfully. Had a private scan at 8 weeks as I wasn't sure how far along I was so doesn't feel like too long of a wait since then! :)

I'm also 10 weeks, had my booking appt with midwife last Thurs and still not yet had a scan appt - funnily enough was wondering the same thing just today!

Apparently it's all paperless now through BadgerNotes? (not sure if that's just my area) so not sure if I'll get a letter in the post. I fear I'll get a digital notification of the appt and I'll miss it! Midwife said the app was rubbish!

Hopefully we both get our appts soon! If I don't hear by the end of the week I may phone the booking team.

lmw88 · 27/10/2022 14:16

Had my first scan this morning measuring 3 days behind what I thought I was (11+6) based on scan I'm 11+3. Has anyone else had this? Bringing me back on 9th just to get better measurements / visuals but baby was active and good heartbeat. Was quite surreal but so glad to have it over with as well.
