Hi all,

I have a little boy called Theo and am due baby number 2 very soon. I can’t decide between the following boys names:

Hugo - is it too matchy matchy with Theo? Two similar?
Oscar - does it sound weird and would I regret it?

please, I would love to hear your thoughts!!

Both lovely names, I do agree Hugo is a bit too similar to Theo so that just from those two options I would pick Oscar.

Thank you so much! My mother is telling me Hugo and Theo sound good together but not sure if I can get over the matchiness!

We have a theo and my husband is trying to convince me on the name Leo 😂

Eunoia · 20/10/2022 17:54

Hugo is too similar to Theo.

Oscar is lovely.

Awww. ❤️I have a 20 year old Theo! My other son is Alec.
I think Hugo and Oscar are both lovely with Theo.
I used to, many moons ago, live near siblings Theo, Otis, and Rex who are all young men now.
Also lived near Theo and Angus, again siblings.
I always thought Alasdair and Theo sounds lovely together.
Also Atticus, Axel, Magnus, Edgar

Yes I do love the name Alasdair too! But will inevitably get shortened and don’t love the abbreviations
thanks for the suggestions!!

what about Max?!

Hugo is too similar to Theo.

Oscar is lovely.

Thank you!!
just worried I might regret Oscar in years to come. To me it’s a classical name, I live in a small town and think people will think it’s strange!!

I love Hugo and I don’t think it’s too similar.
Oscar is nice too, I don’t think people will find it strange.
wait to see the baby and then decide. You might choose another name! Like me.

I like Oscar and have taught a few over the years - not many, but enough to make it not really unusual.

Craftybodger · 20/10/2022 19:37

Hugo would be my choice but I think it’s too similar to Theo.

I’m not so keen on Oscar.

Max is great, I also love the name Isaac.

junebirthdaygirl · 20/10/2022 19:40

What about Theo and Hugh..so no o ending

Daisychainsx · 20/10/2022 19:58

Theyre both lovely names, my dog is named Oscar (not because I think it's a dogs name, just because I got him 12 years ago and didn't have any kids on the horizon), but if it wasn't for that I'd have considered it for my little boy! My cousin has a toddler named Oscar and everyone thinks it's lovely🥰
I also love Milo. Milo and Theo 😍

Barleysugar86 · 20/10/2022 19:59

Oscar is much better in my opinion with Theo (and Hugo is so over used!)

MsMcGonagall · 20/10/2022 20:03

Max is perfect!

Otherwise Oscar

EverydayIsPJday · 20/10/2022 20:54

I have an Oscar who has just turned 5 and he is fabulous 🤩 so that gets my vote! (Although Theo and Hugo doesn't sound wierd either 😂)

RuthW · 20/10/2022 21:01

Hugo is too similar Oscar is lovely. More popular than Hugo but not ever so popular.

PrioritiseCalm · 20/10/2022 21:02

Theo and Oscar sound fab.

Irishgal001 · 04/11/2022 18:17

I like Hugo but it may be too similar to Theo. How about Huw or Hugh?
