Anyone else pack all sorts of unhealthy snacks for after birth with GD? šŸ˜‚
I have my ELCS next Wednesday at 38 weeks and I’m already planning what unhealthy snacks I’m going to pack in my hospital bag. Can’t wait. šŸ˜…

Ofc I’m not going to eat unhealthy all the time but at least for the first few days! I’ve had enough of this GD diet.

Yes I remember packing lots of chocolate!! Hospital food is not that great so remember to pack some savoury stuff too!!

I packed a little Muller rice pudding, the thought of it kept me going through labour! Had an emergency c section and forgot about it until I was home. But sitting in bed eating it was the best thing ever!

I thought I'd be ok and straight back to normal after GD but it actually takes a while. I remember having a curry with rice and my blood sugar reading 14.1, and this was a week or so after delivery.

wedonttalkaboutyouno · 19/10/2022 20:44

I packed so much chocolate, but actually couldn’t bring myself to eat any of it!! I am absolutely addicted to sugar again now, a few months down the line, but despite desperately missing it when pregnant, I didn’t really fancy it for a while after giving birth šŸ˜ž

Ha, this was me in August. I really missed fruit, so packed lots of strawberries and nectarines. Also some chocolates and Pringles. Wine gums!

I hope my blood sugars go back to normal soon after birth! This is such a dumb question, but after giving birth when I’ll be on the ward, I will be able to ask DH to bring me food from outside right? Like McDonald’s or something?

My bloods sugars returned immediately. I’m sure they will let your partner bring food as long as he is allowed to visit you - I think different hospitals will have different visiting rules.

7Worfs · 19/10/2022 21:10

Yep, your DH can bring you food.

btw I was told to stop checking my blood as soon as I deliver, and to eat as normal. Bloods at GP 6 weeks postpartum.
They worry for the baby, once it’s out, you are fine to eat carbs, your body will regulate itself soon.

RefuseTheLies · 19/10/2022 21:16

My hospital checked my blood sugars after delivery to make sure they were normal again, so just make sure you know what the policy is before you overload on lovely, lovely carbs and sugar.

I went a bit mental with caffeine the day after my c-section, oblivious to the fact that my blood pressure had to be in a normal range before they would discharge me. I should have thought that through properly before all the extra large coffees šŸ˜‚

dreamerkr · 19/10/2022 21:37

Omg I can’t wait for my coffee and my hot chocolates šŸ˜‹ 6 days to go šŸ˜‚

Omg I had Cadbury’s roundies in my bag and my hubs took a couple with us to theatre (planned c section) so I could eat them with my post birth cup of tea. I was so happy snuggling my baby and scoffing choc biscuits, off my face on painkillers 🤣

Mayfield87 · 20/10/2022 14:19

After labour I remember devouring a whole bag of jelly babies and a full fat coke at 2am in the morning- then had a dominoes pizza the evening I came out of hospital- was pure bliss! Enjoy!

Lmgify · 20/10/2022 14:27

I had a Colin the caterpillar cake in a jar in my hospital bag. My trust didn’t check my blood sugar after the baby was born so I just assumed everything was alright right afterwards

Bumpin · 20/10/2022 15:10

I had a whole tube of Salt & Vinegar Pringles, which I promptly up-ended and tipped all over my 45 minute old baby. Midwife walked in to find me licking salty crumbs out of his hair...

Got to be the most boring topic posted yet!!

I craved white chocolate SO much in my GD pregnancies. Family gave me selection boxes of white chocolate in hospital both times - so good.

This time I'm packing chocolate, cereal bars, mixed nuts, beef jerky, and crunchy corn...they only gave me tea and a piece of toast after DD was born and I remember feeling like I was going to pass out from hunger

Jonesy88 · 18/01/2023 19:44

I was eating Percy pigs during labour šŸ™ˆ I couldn’t keep down any proper food and the midwife said now’s the time to need a sugar boost so I went for it.
