Spontaneous labour

I’m 40+3 with third baby and I can’t be bothered to do all the things I’m meant to do to bring on labour. Can I hear stories of spontaneous labour where you didn’t do everything under the sun to get going? I think I tried too hard with the last two and I don’t want to get obsessive and stressed.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My earliest baby was the one where I sat on the sofa and ate all the cake. 40+3. The ones where I tried everything going were at +15 and +13.

I went into spontaneous labour with my first (and so far only) at 39+3. I didn’t do anything! But I’m quite active so I don’t know if that helped.

Excellent @OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea, that’s exactly what I need to hear!

I didn’t do anything to bring on labour. I was too tired and felt too rotten

Ive had spontaneous labour at 40 weeks and 17 days, 40 weeks and 5 days, 22 weeks and 1 day (although I suspect that not the type of labour you mean) and 38 weeks and 5 days.

didn’t do anything differently for any of them

My labour started at 40+5 without me trying anything, I was too tired. I woke up from a three hour nap and my waters broke when I stood up

I went into spontaneous labour at 38+5 last time and hadn't been doing anything to bring on labour. I truly believe that baby will come when they are ready, whether you try to bring on labour or not.

I fell asleep on the sofa watching a movie, woke up feeling funny, stood up and my waters broke all over the floor. 38+6!

I went into spontaneous labour with all 3 of mine. First two babies were both over a week late. I did everything you can think of to bring on labour and nothing worked. I went into labour once I gave up and stopped trying. Third baby I did absolutely nothing to bring on labour and he arrived three days early.

I didn't do anything with either of mine either. Just waited it out. And definitely with #2 as I knew what lay ahead so wasn't in a rush to get to labour and newborn sleep deprivation when I had a cosy set up on relaxing Mat leave with my four yr old 😄

Dilbertian · 20/10/2022 16:55

I didn't try to get labour going with any of mine. It happened when it happened. All of mine were born between 39 - 41 weeks. Though with the last I was humongous, and utterly exhausted, so I decided to ask for a sweep at 41+1, when I was next due to see the midwife. Ds beat me to it.

All very reassuring, thank you. Still bloody waiting though!
