Hi everyone

Today I had something coming out of my private area. It scared me alot. I went to hospital. They said it could be pregnancy Tissue. I'm so worried. I'm 9 weeks. I want to post a picture incase someone might know what it is. But it looks horrible and I don't wanna scare anybody.
it looks like a jelly type of lump.
Doctor said 9 weeks is too early for anything to show on Abdominal ultrasound scan. They said it would have to be internal so they could check and see cervix. I am still bleeding but not heavy and no cramps. Had light cramps in afternoon. I was not comfortable in doing the internal scan so they sent me home.
I thought at 9 weeks a fetus should be visible on Abdominal scan isn't it?

Any bit of advice would be nice
Yaz

I had a scan abdominally at 9 weeks and could see baby clearly - as long as your bladder super full should be fine. Can you self refer to your EPU (if you’re UK based)?

Hope everything is ok.

GilbertlovesAnne · 19/10/2022 06:11

I had an a nominal scan at 10w and could see babies arms head etc.

You could always book a private scan for reassurance ?

Sorry you’re going through this x

B1993 · 19/10/2022 07:11

You should absolutely be able to see baby at that point. I had a scan at 6+1 due to bleeding (they measured me even smaller at 5-6 weeks) and could see baby and its heartbeat clearly with abdominal scan. I even had an empty bladder so I'm surprised they wouldn't even try with you.

I don't know when the mucus plug starts to develop, but what you've described sounds very much like that... I've only ever (personally) experienced loosing any late in the third trimester but do know people can loose it a lot earlier without issues as it regenerates, but 9 weeks does seem very early for that.

If I were you, I'd contact your EPAU as I'm sure they'll have no issues scanning you and be in a better position to identify the cause.

Sorry you are going through this, it's such a worry.

Due to recurrent miscarriages, in most of my pregnancies I've been scanned at 5 weeks and been able to see a sac and yolk, 7 weeks showed a weird shaped blob with a heartbeat so at 9 weeks you'd absolutely see a baby and heartbeat.

Not sure why dr said that to you, if you Google it'll state the earliest you'd normally see something on a scan is 6 weeks.

Please get a second opinion, wishing you lots of luck for a healthy baby xx

When you say went to hospital - do you mean A&E? If you are UK the best thing to do is contact Early Pregnancy Assessment - they should offer scans.

I'm not sure why you do not want an internal/transvaginal scan and ultimately it is 100% your choice. However, in case it is due to concern about discomfort I just wanted to say they are not sore at all and much less awkward than I thought they would be. Appreciate there may be other reasons you don't want one though.

Princess2022 · 20/10/2022 13:30

Thank you all for talking to me.
I did a private early pregnancy scan 2 days ago and they said my uterus was empty and there was so sign of baby. I'm scared thinking is it an ectopic pregnancy or the pregnancy Tissue that came out few days back that was the fetus.
I Don't know if I should worry or stay calm.
In the private scan reports it said my left ovary was poorly visible. I want to do a pelvic Abdominal ultrasound to check my ovaries and fallopian tubes and bloodtest to see if hcg levels are dropping.
When I said all this to my gp they said to go to early pregnancy unit. I have been there twice so far recently and they can only offer internal scan and I can no way do that. I'm going crazy. On Private scan there was nothing so maybe I have miscarried as I am still bleeding since past 5 days but not so heavy. I thought when your miscarrying you bleed really heavily.
I'm so sad and confused. After 6 years of my marriage 1st time I conceived 🙁.
I haven't lost hope though x

At 9 weeks it should be visible on the abdominal scan, internal would confirm either way but if that’s not an option then I’d guess it’s wait and see what happens, if you have any pain then to hospital asap incase it’s ectopic!

Crimsonripple · 20/10/2022 14:31

Why don't you want an internal? They don't hurt, mild discomfort maybe but nothing major. You may never know if what you passed was a miscarriage but if the private scan is showing no foetus then that is likely correct.

Crimsonripple · 20/10/2022 14:32

You don't always bleed heavily for a miscarriage.

Princess2022 · 20/10/2022 14:46

The reason why I'm too scared of having an internal examination is because I conceived with artificial insemination at home 😥 because of my fears of having intercourse.

Sorry to read what you are going through, are you still getting positive pregnancy tests? If you want to post a picture you can, and if needed ask to have a trigger warning added to the thread.

Reading between the lines it sounds as if you have got some problems that you may find helpful to talk over with a gp, who can refer you for further support.

Hope this is ok to write, wishing you all the best xx

Princess2022 · 20/10/2022 15:12

The doctor who did my private scan said to do pregnancy test after a week. Next week I will do it. I will post it now if you have any idea what could it be could you please tell me anything I will be grateful
But I'm not sure how to remove picture after

I'm obviously no expert and don't want to crush any hopes but I suspect that you sadly had a miscarriage and have now passed the pregnancy tissue. I had a miscarriage at an earlier stage and was similar but not as much.

This would appear consistent with the abdominal scan (although an internal one would have been better). I would do as suggested and take a pregnancy test after a week or so to be sure.

Sorry xx

BraveFaceScaredInside · 20/10/2022 15:34

Im tending to agree with @havingabubble Flowers

So sorry your going through all this, I do think the only way forward is to wait to see what next weeks test says and go from there.

I won't go on about getting help for other issue's, but please think about it, life can be a shit, but there is always help and hope xxxxxxxxx

Princess2022 · 20/10/2022 16:17

Thank you havingabubble and BraveFaceScaredInside for being so kind. It's like I'm talking to someone close to me. I don't want it to be ectopic that's what I'm panicking about. Could it be the fetus passed away earlier at 5 or 6 weeks and miscarriage happen now at 9 weeks that's why it's just one big clot that came out of me. Coz I was expecting to see a actual baby but really tiny ofcourse if it was a miscarriage at 9 weeks. So confusing tbh. I don't wanna go mad. I think I'm thinking too deeply and it's over sadly but I can't get over it 🙁

For your information, these pictures show what early pregnancy tissue actually looks like.

@Princess2022 Unfortunately I'd have to agree with the ladies above that it appears to be a miscarriage. 💔💔

I'm so sorry that you've had to go through this and I'm sorry for your loss. Be kind to yourself through all of this and know that there will be a rainbow after this storm. 🌈

I could be wrong in saying this, but usually the baby passes still inside their sac, so you might not see the 'baby', especially so early. It's also entirely possible for the baby to pass and your body not recognise until later (sometimes it doesn't recognise it and medical or surgical management would then be needed).

Again, I'm so sorry 💔

Princess2022 · 20/10/2022 17:57

Thank you B1993 for sharing this 👍
Do you think I will be passing more pregnancy Tissue or is that it?

OP posts:
B1993 · 20/10/2022 18:03

@Princess2022 you passed quite a big piece so possibly, but I'm no expert, sorry!! If you're still testing postive next week, that would suggest you've retained some pregancy tissue and would need to have a scan to check.

Princess2022 · 20/10/2022 18:13

Yeh true B1993
I'm also assuming that was it. Yesterday I was bleeding but not much and today there was nothing. But Yesterday I was feeling so drowsy and dizzy for the whole evening. Today I'm not feeling like that strange. Just slight pain in stamoch.

OP posts:
havingabubble · 20/10/2022 18:19

You're welcome OP I know it's really hard, well done for being so strong.

Again I'm no expert but it is possible that the embryo wouldn't have got to the size you would expect at 9 weeks. It may have stopped growing at an earlier stage but you had no symptoms of a miscarriage at that stage, I.e. a missed miscarriage.

Other than the miscarriage I already mentioned I experienced this too. I was doing IVF and on extra progesterone. I thought I was 7 weeks pregnant but when I went for the scan there was a tiny gestational sac but no baby and I had experienced no signs that I had miscarried, it was devastating. Once I came off all the meds I bled and passed any pregnancy tissue.

Doctor was concerned whether it could be ectopic but when my HCG blood test showed I wasn't pregnant they were no longer concerned. So if your blood test shows you are no longer pregnant and you have no symptoms of an ectopic, I don't think that would be a concern.

I realise this must be such a difficult time for you but don't give up on your dream xx

havingabubble · 20/10/2022 18:21

Sorry took me a while to type message so I missed the messages inbetween

Princess2022 · 20/10/2022 18:29

@Princess2022 I’m so sorry you’re going through this. As you don’t want to do an internal scan your EPU should be able to take your HCG by blood test 48 hours apart to tell if your HCG is trending down and if so would probably confirm a miscarriage. Or you can take at home pregnancy tests (it took me about 5 days to test negative but I wasn’t as far along as you).

There is some good support out there - you can phone the Tommy’s helpline, it’s run by midwives and they should be able to advise you on what you’ve been through and what to do next as your EPU don’t sound that helpful. The Miscarriage Association also has some helpful information and a support line you can ring (although that’s not run by midwives I don’t think so if you have medical questions use Tommy’s). When I went through my miscarriage, I found a podcast called the Worst Girl Gang Ever really helpful to not feel so alone and they have a Facebook support group as well.

Take care of yourself x
