Taking progesterone - vaginally or rectally?

I am newly pregnant after four early miscarriages and one late miscarriage in the last two years.

I have had lots of investigations, under the care of recurrent miscarriage clinic etc etc. I am having blood thinning injections daily, twice daily progesterone pessaries and 5mg folic acid daily.

i have previously had my pessaries vaginally but find that the constant heavy discharge as a result really triggering and am trying to avoid any cervical irritation. I feel like I have read somewhere I can use them rectally (also significantly uncomfortable in terms of bowel movements) and this feels better but no one medical has told me this! Any thoughts?

You should check with your medical team. Mine said either.

@russianred it depends which pessaries you’re taking, some are vaginal only I’m afraid. I’ve taken cyclogest many times and def found rectally better for me. As the previous poster said, check with your dr / midwife as it’s not worth the risk of taking them incorrectly.
hope you’re getting on ok with the jabs too, I had 4 months of clexane and found them so painful so certainly feel for you x

I am on cyclogest 400mg twice a day. I alternate both rectally and vaginally. As far as I know both are fine! But do check with your medical team if worried...
Defo find rectally easier but it can be a bit sore I find so I like to also do vaginally sometimes at night

Congratulations!! X

Cyclogest is exactly what I am taking. Alternating sounds a good idea, but perhaps I shall revert to vaginally until I next see the team. Thanks all x

Im on Cyclogest after 3 miscarriages and I have taken them rectally since I started. I can't cope with the amount of mess when done vaginally. I'm almost 16 weeks and it has only just started being a little uncomfortable and I'll be glad to finish them now just because it will be nice not to have to do it twice a day! Hope this helps

I've just started these yesterday after 2 mcs in the last 12 months.

Taking them vaginally (for now) but the leaflet in mine does say vaginally or rectally is fine.

Has anyone found they've had extreme tiredness and grumpiness not long after insertion, which has worn off a few hours later?

I've got to use them until I'm 16 weeks (fingers crossed) and dreading the thought of the symptoms getting even worse.
