Hey guys! Hope you’re all well! I’m 36+2 today and in just 12 days at 38 weeks on the dot I have my elective c-section. It’s slightly earlier than I had expected because of my gestational diabetes which is getting difficult to control with diet so I’ve been started on insulin, and also, baby is breech. Oh yes also, baby’s constantly been measuring over the 97th centile but the last growth scan 2 days ago showed his growth has tailed and is now just slightly above the 90th centile. Baby boy was measuring almost 6lb 2oz at last growth scan.
I know 38 weeks is full term, but I was wondering if any of you guys have had a c-section at 38 weeks and how did it go? How long did you have to stay in hospital after the operation and what about baby? Was everything okay with baby?

My daughter is 27 and 38 weeks was the norm back then. All went very smoothly. I was discharged from hospital to a local maternity unit the following day, but I think these days you’re more likely to go home.

Hi,
I had pretty much exactly that without the GD (previous section+breech +small). They warned me baby might need a bit of help but in the end he was completely fine, fed straight away. Born at lunchtime, left the following evening so one night in hospital. I did struggle to climb the one flight of stairs when I got home and then spent a few days in bed and then a combination of bed and sofa for a while. The recovery is not fun while trying to look after a baby but the actual section was overall a much much better experience than my previous emergency section. I paid for a single room at the hospital which was so much more peaceful - I didn't know that was an option the first time and really struggled to 'switch off' on a busy ward. So maybe find out if that is an option where you are?

Hi OP, I had my baby by ELCS at 38+2 earlier this year, also with gestational diabetes. She was 6lb4oz (which had been her estimated weight 2 weeks earlier). C section went smoothly and she was a bit cold so went under the heat lamp while we were in recovery but otherwise was fine. Especially in theatre and in recovery I felt we were very well looked after. We stayed in hospital about 36 hours in total.
Hope you’re feeling ok and it all goes as smoothly as possible 💐

Thank you so much guys! I’m feeling great tbh, just a bit nervous though as this is my first baby. ☺️
