Been offered a new role with the same company (worked there 10+ years) it's a senior role, discussing salary offer tomorrow. I haven't told them I'm pregnant yet (14 weeks) and absolutely terrified! Could they withdraw offer? Will I looked be down on? Worrying about this a lot like in misreading them somehow but I absolutely need the payrise!!!

Hi, firstly, no they absolutely cannot withdraw the offer.

Secondly, this is really common and in my experience (HR), will not be looked down on at all. The manager will probably be slightly irritated because they have to recruit the backfill but not at you.

When you are agreeing start date etc I would let them know so you are giving them maximum notice. Then you can start planning for cover of your position etc for maternity leave. This can create a really great secondment opportunity for someone else which is positive.

Again, not unusual at all and you certainly shouldn’t be worried about it.

Congratulations x

Thank you so much, that has made me feel better. I'm still very nervous and feel as though I've pulled the wool over their eyes somehow. It shouldn't make a difference but the pregnancy is a huge shock to us to be honest, we thought we couldn't have any more!!

I found out I was pregnant about a week before I was offered a promotion. I told them after my first pay day with my new salary.

I had an interview, was offered the job, accepted and then found out I was pregnant. I had to tell my new manager pretty early as I was v sick. Fortunately he was great and that extended to when my baby arrived very early while I was working.

You can't always plan when these things will happen. We had been trying for 6 months and for all I knew it could have taken another 12.

When I say pretty early - I had to tell him on my first day!

I don't think they can withdraw offer without risking you taking them up on discrimination. I'd personally wait until I have my contract etc in place so the job is definitely mine before telling them if you can keep it under wraps that long. I'd also want to check with hr that the job change won't affect your maternity entitlements. I doubt it would but always good to know these things. Congratulations!!

@b8tes7sw around the point you are now I think. About 14 weeks. They weren't very efficient getting my pay rise sorted Grin
