Heavily bleeding during early pregnancy

Hi, looking for similar stories and outcomes, reassurance, anything really. Most likely looking for false hope. I found out last week I was pregnant after months of trying. Yesterday afternoon I went to the bathroom and noticed fresh red blood on my underwear. I’d have no cramping, I’ve continued to bleed since then, heavily bleeding, small clots. Phoned me epu and they said to take a test in a week and if it’s still positive they’ll scan me. I’ve had mild cramping but the bleeding is quite healthy. Is there any chance my baby could be okay or am I just giving myself false hope? We really wanted this baby :( appreciate any replies x

Didn’t want to read and run! I’m so sorry you’re going through this, it’s really scary! Bleeding can happen in early pregnancy (it happened to me and baby was fine) or it could mean the alternative. The horrible thing is that there is just no way of knowing until you can get scanned. Waiting a week will be hard but try to stay positive. I’d monitor the bleeding and head to a&e if it becomes really heavy/you are in lots of pain. I wish you the best of luck and hope it’s a positive outcome for you x

Oh op, it's so difficult and so hard on the head at this stage. When I got pregnant I started having very heavy bleeding with clots at 4 weeks. Gp advised to keep taking tests to see if the pregnancy would progress. Got to 6 weeks and went for an early scan at fetal assessment and they could see the very early signs of a pregnancy but nothing that reassured them completely that things were progressing. Continuing having spontaneous very heavy bleeds with no cramps until 8 weeks at which point we were scanned again and we got a heartbeat and the doctor diagnosed a subchorionic hematoma which was what caused all the bleeds. It was really quite touch and go until our 16 week scan when we could see the hematoma had resolved and baby was doing really well. I'm due in 4 weeks now so I feel like we were really lucky and all worked out OK but those early weeks were brutal and so upsetting because I wanted to hope but also so scared to. I really really hope it all works out for you. One thing I found helpful was that I told two friends who I knew would understand and who wouldn't share what was happening so I had some people to talk about it with and it meant that I knew that if the pregnancy didn't progress I would have a support system to be there when I needed them. I'd encourage you and your partner to do the same because it is such a hard and worrying time. Loads of self care and lots of rest in the meantime. Try to keep yourself as busy as you can to get through the next few weeks and I'm sending you such good wishes and a hand hold until you know more.

Only time will tell. This has happened to me twice once it progressed to a miscarriage and once everything was fine.

Thanks for your replies, I appreciate it. Just getting by with blind hope right now, this was my last chance and I just can’t believe how fast it all happened. I’m still bleeding, small clots. I think I know in my heart what’s happened but I just keep looking for so many different reasons I could be bleeding. I’m gutted. :(

Hi OP, I had fresh blood at 6w and was convinced I'd had (another miscarriage). EPU scanned me and we heard a heart beat. Like an earlier poster I had a hematoma which was causing the blood and was also told it was touch and go until it resolved. Everything was fine and I now have a 4 month old so there is certainly still hope.

Good luck and if it's not to be this time don't give up xx

I had heavy bleeding at 8&10 weeks. I ended up in A&E the second time, it was that heavy. That baby is now 13.
I don’t want to give you false hope but things can work out.

Couldn’t help myself just took a test and it’s negative. Only 5 days after a bfp. How is that possible. I only started bleeding on Wednesday afternoon, surely that can’t be it already?

Sorry @Mrwilsonswife this sounds like a chemical pregnancy/very early miscarriage - a positive followed by a period like bleed then negative tests as HCG has left the system. My thoughts are with you xx

I hate to have to write this, but this sounds very much like my experience of my early miscarriage. I was 4+6 when bright red bleeding began but had known of the pregnancy since 8DPO so close to two weeks! The red bleeding progressed, much like you've described, with small clots. I didn't have any cramping but did have back ache (not severe). I was absolutely devastated and was in a bit of denial at the time, hoping it was just going to be a case of scary but harmless pregnancy bleeding. My tests started to get lighter after a couple days of bleeding, then after a few more days they were negative.

I can give you a bit of hope though... We decided not to wait to try again. Exactly 4 weeks after that red bleeding began, I got another postive test!! I had some more red bleeding with this pregancy a couple days after the initial postive. It only happened once or twice though, and was only when wiping. I had an early scan on Thursday to check everything was ok. Luckily, there was a little 4.something mm baby with strong heartbeat 💗 🥰😍

I know it doesn't help how your feeling now, but there's a rainbow waiting for you after this storm 🌈 Like me, it could happen again very quickly so don't lose hope!
