Hi, i had my private NIPT done a week ago and today i have received a call from clinic saying i need to come back as my blood test did not have enough genetic material but i should not be worried.
What does this mean? Shall i worry? Why does this happen?

Please advise 😟

It just means there wasn't enough generic material from the baby in your blood. It's not uncommon. Of course it's a bit of a shock when you get the call, but it doesn't mean that there's something wrong.

Are you on blood thinners? That can sometimes affect it.

No, i am not. None of the criteria why this would happen match me.

That's true, it is not very pleasant and you can't help but worry..

Hi OP, this happened to me twice and then the third time it magically worked. DC is 2 now and no apparent issues.

How far along are you? When I was pregnant in the US, where NIPT is standard, my doctor didn’t do it until 11.5 weeks for exactly this reason, but I know places in the UK will do it from 10…

I did it at 10w 5d . I think it could have been too early, you might be right.

That’s probably it OP, 10 weeks really is right on the cusp. Also if you have a higher BMI then that could also be a reason, especially if combined with having had it done early. I really wouldn’t worry, all it means is that you’ll be waiting a little longer. Have you had it redone?

My BMI is in the healthy range, actually on the lower side. I had it redone today.
Thank you for your messages

Glad you had it redone, fingers crossed for a quick and low risk result this time!
