Hi, does anyone know if sonographers can tell a babies gender at 13 weeks?
When I went for my 12 week scan my sonographer said my baby was measuring 13 weeks exactly and everything looked great. During the scan when the sonographer was talking about the baby he kept calling the baby he. After he'd said this a few times I asked him, why are you calling the baby he, I didn't think you can tell at this stage. He said, oh I always call babies he until we know the sex. I didn't buy this, I think it would be seen as sexist to do that. I just wondered if anyone knows if they can tell at 13 weeks and my sonographer said he by mistake then made an excuse when I asked him about it? Anyone been told the sex of their baby at 13 weeks?
I have a gender scan booked for next week but I'm so excited to know. Thank you

It's extremely common for a sonograoher to refer to the baby as he or she, as they don't like to use 'it'. Both my DD's were referred to as He's until we knew the sex

No you can’t tell at 13 weeks

I think it's normal to refer to baby as either gender before they can even tell. They do it to avoid referring to baby as 'it' I believe.

Most babies do not have differentiated genitals at 13 weeks (14 is a bit early too so you may wish to rearrange your scan!)

I think it's 16 weeks on a scan but you can do the harmony test which can tell you now!

My sonographer used she in scans until confirmed it was a boy. Did the same with my girl. So either way, just used she as a reference.

Thank you all. I have a gender scan booked for just over a week so I'll just have to wait and see

I wouldn’t read too much into it, we had a harmony test so know we’re expecting a girl, yet my midwife is forever referring to her as a him during appointments. I think some just have a natural preference one way or another.

Thank you for your advise. I will find out a week ok Sunday anyway as I have a gender scan, I'm just impatient. I keep seeing baby clothes on sale but none gender neutral and I want to start buying bits
