Pregnancy Sickness/Nausea and medications - Ondanestron, Omeprazole, cyclizine

Hi all,

I'm just trying to find out people's experiences with pregnancy nausea/sickness medications, in partciular with Ondanestron, OmeprazoleI, cyclizine or other combinations.

I experience all day sickness/nausea. I am 12 weeks pregnancy. About 4 weeks ago I finally went to the GP and they prescribed my cyclizine. It made it marginally better, but not every day, and although it stopped me from throwing up most days, I still had the 24/7 nausea. I am finding it really hard to make it through one day at a time and so I have filled in another e-consult with a GP for second line treatment, and requested Ondanestron. I haven't heard back from them yet.

I have also been experiencing really painful acid reflux keeping me up all night, that wasn't eased by lifestyle changes/gaviscon. The doctor has prescribed Omeprazole, and I have to take it once every day. However, I am so worried because it says one of the side effects is increased nausea.

I know that often these medications are trial and error, but I just wondered if you could please share what combination of medications worked for you to help your sickness. Also, did the combination make nausea go away completely or just blunt it a little? Did you find Omeprazole made your sickness worse? Any insights/experiences you can share on anti nausea medication would be appreciated.

TIA

Heya, I’m currently 10 weeks and was looking for other input in this as well. I ended up in hospital with severe dehydration and high ketones.
I’ve had very conflicting advice from the midwives and the GP. I was prescribed metacloptomide and cyclizine at the hospital and the metaclopramide has saved me.
similar to you, cyclizine helped with sickness but not with the actual nausea.
The GP said only take the metaclopramide when I had to and try to rely on the cyclizine and to only take either when I need it, whereas the midwives were more for the metaclopramide and said keep on top of taking it everyday.
I guess this is just the start of my conflicting information journey!

I know your post is nearly a month old now so I’m hoping you’re out of the sicky phase x

Hi, OP - Cyclizine did absolutely nothing at all for me. No change in my symptoms at all.

My GP prescribed Metaclopramide, which I found very helpful.
