Not very accurate, they shouldn't be done until 16 weeks at the very earliest

Rach1802 · 10/10/2022 19:58

i was told boy today (I’m 15 weeks and 1 day) but the sonographer barely even checked and to me I wasn’t 100% convinced comparing my 3 year olds boy bits scan! Im going to get it confirmed at my 20 week I think!

Was it an NHS or a private scan? They shouldn't be checking for gender that early. Having said that, if they said boy it's more likely to be correct than if they said girl.

SunshineClouds1 · 10/10/2022 20:02

16 weeks at the earliest

TokenGinger · 10/10/2022 20:09

I went for a reassurance scan at 14+3 and she asked me if I wanted a sneak peak of the sex (she did warn it was not accurate but she could look and see what she thought). I already knew the sex as we had a NIPT but I said yes out of interest. She was right, but had we not had the NIPT, I wouldn't have taken it as gospel so early on as I've seen so many early predictions be incorrect.

Rach1802 · 10/10/2022 20:15

This was a private scan, the only one I found that would do it before 16 weeks , never had an early one before

Do you have a picture you can post OP?

sageandbasil · 10/10/2022 20:29

My friend was told she was having a girl.... lo and behold a boy at 20 weeks 🙈

Bunny2006 · 10/10/2022 20:30

I used to work in a private scan clinic that did from 15 weeks which was the earliest place around, we very rarely got them wrong but it did happen, more so with certain scanners. Quite often people were told to come back as unsure though, or even just asked to go for a walk and pop back in so they could see it from a different angle before confirming. I used a clinic that does from 16 weeks but I went when I was 17 weeks, I'd be wary of somewhere from 15 weeks

Rach1802 · 10/10/2022 20:45

They didn’t actually take a photo of the bits! I wanted them to so I can check it with people lol, I only got a little 4D but you can’t see any bits on it x

Oh really! I’ve used this place with my other two aswell , I’ve never had a gender one there though it’s always been the early scans from 6 weeks. Just a bit sceptical now! I’m sure they were correct but just want to double check lol

Most people I know who've found out the gender have been told correctly. I was told girl at my 20w scan with my toddler though, and he is definitely a boy Grin

AlternativelyWired · 10/10/2022 21:04

There's 70+ genders. Gender is a fluid thing that is a social construct. Did you mean sex? That's immutable and can be seen on a scan. It's not always accurate though.

SigmundJähn · 10/10/2022 21:05

It's sex, not gender.

Rach1802 · 10/10/2022 21:17

If they said they were as sure as they can be then it should be ok! My gender and wellbeing scan was right at 17 weeks and the scanner said they can never say 100% but she was confident and said she'd be very surprised if it was wrong, I've had my 20 week scan confirm it

Erby21 · 07/11/2022 14:06

Hi everyone, I had my gender scan at 16 weeks and was told boy but I can't get it out of my head that they are wrong 🙃 I'd absolutely love a little boy after having girls so I'm hoping they're right but what do you all think? Thanks x

Definitely looks like a boy to me!

Erby21 · 08/11/2022 11:09

Thank you both for your replies! After 3 girls, two miscarriages and complications in this pregnancy I just can't believe it 😊 I'd be made up either way in all honesty but it would be just amazing if our last pregnancy was a boy x
