I have now put on nearly two stone and have ten weeks to go. Heard some where that two stone is the average to put on (or am I deluded)
How much did you put on? I want to know if its common to be able to lose that much. I do plan on BF. I am only 5' 3" with arthritis so really dont want to be carrying around that much extra for the rest of my life.
Cheer me up please!

With ds I was 9 1/2 stone before lost 2 stone due to morning sickness by end of pregnancy I was 10 stone and after I gave birth I was 9 1/2 again.

This time has so far gone exactly the same Same weight loss due to m/s and at 36 weeks I'm half a stone more than my pre pregnancy weight so am hoping to be not far off when I give birth.

Have to say though I'd take weight gain anytime over the weeks I spent in hospital with the m/s

I put on 2 stone in my first pregnancy - and am the same height as you! I was back to my usual weight within about 4 months.

In my second, I put on 1.5 stone and lost it all (and more) in a few weeks - I've never been able to regain it unfortunately, which is not good if you are naturally thin to start with.

Naetha · 26/01/2008 12:38

I put on 3 stone during pregnancy, and after 3 weeks have lost 2.5 stone.

I'm exclusively breastfeeding, and still losing about 2-3lbs a week. The great thing is, that I went into my pregnancy being a size 16 and have come out being a size 14 (except for teh remains of my jelly belly, but I'm ignoring that for now!). Hopefully it'll carry on that way (was overweight to start with) although I currently want to eat all the time, although satisfied with healthy snacks rather than in the last month of pregnancy where only real comfort food would work!

i have ten weeks to go and have put on about 12lbs. (3rd pg)

I always go back to just under 9 stone, i sort of ping back after the birth which is fab.

1st pg: put on 3 stone and lost it all after, and a tad more.

2nd pg: just under 2 stone and lost it all.

Lizzylou · 26/01/2008 19:42

4 stone with DS1
4.5 stone with DS2

Have lost it all with some to spare (am a stone lighter than before I conceived DS1 almost 5 years ago) but I found it very hard to lose, and kept the weight on whilst breastfeeding, a few of my friends have been the same.

Mumblesmummy · 26/01/2008 22:51

I'm on my first baby and I lost 5 stone just before I got pregnant. I am piling on weight with this pregnancy- mostly because I'm eating a lot, and a lot of carbs because I seem to be hungry and wanting to eat all the wrong things. I reckon if I've lost the weight before i can do it again, so I'll just cut out weight, processed foods, take aways and dairy after I have the baby, as this is how I lost weight last time. Fingers crossed. I reckon I've a struggle ahead...

Hi I put on 3 1/2 stone with DD and took forever to lose it (1/2 stone always remained!) despite bf for 9 months!
Doc told me some women are actually prevented from losing weight by bf, especially if skinny before baby (my case, as I was probably 8 stone with a wet towel on my head!). Something to do with your body worrying that you won't have enough fat to feed baby and therefore keeping every bleeding calory IN. So don't worry if you don't lose the weight straight away! On the plus side the boobs remained even 2 years on, like I had surgery or something. I was THRILLED!!
This time round (expecting second baby, 32 wks now) I got paranoid about putting on so much, it was going really well until about 28 weeks and suddenly out of control: over 2 pound a week weight gain. I got worried and felt guilty everytime I ate. Started "being careful" (eating as I would if not pregnant and trying to maintain good weight) and after three days of crying my eyes out every night I clicked: I NEED to eat!!! (especially as I work full-time) Started munching away again today and feel much better for it. Not worth worrying too much during pregnancy! Dieting NOT an option! After 3 days I felt almost suicidal (and I wasn't even dieting, just cutting on choc and carbs a bit) and I don't recommend it at all!!! Much easier to be "sensible" once you're not pregnant anymore (and once your baby isn't a few weeks old either)!

Scampmum · 26/01/2008 23:12

DD put on 2st 1 and lost that within 9 weeks, then a further half stone. BF for nine months.

This time (27 weeks) 1.5 stone already so heading for at least 2.5 (prob same weight full-term as before).

spugs · 27/01/2008 08:26

dd1 - put on 2st 12 started at 8 st 12, lost a good stone straight away and then the rest over about 4 mths. didnt go back down quiteas low though, stuck at about 9st 2

dd2 - put on 2st 12, lost it about the same and went down to about 9st2 again.

this pregnancy - have put on just over 2 stone so far (32 weeks) was not concerned about it at all till my 'best friend' told me i was fat last night in the pub!! bloody unforgivable is that!

justpinions · 27/01/2008 08:44

Between ds1 and ds2 and over a space of 4 years, a total of 7 1/2 stone .

Have now lost 6 stone on the last 10 months since ds2 was born and the last 1 1/2 stone to go.

These darned pregnancies .

justpinions · 27/01/2008 08:46

Oh and bf definitely helps it to go imo !! Bf for first 6 months, exclusively !

whomovedmychocolate · 27/01/2008 09:09

I gained four stone and then lost five by the time DD was a year old. (Still bfing). Am now pregnant again and still breastfeeding and have gained a stone so far, but because I am still nursing I am eating like a horse and not gaining much.

NB in the six weeks when breastfeeding is being established it's vital not to restrict food, you may well feel hungrier and thirstier and you should go with that. Once feeding is well established you can start eating a bit less and it will go.

I did the Paul McKenna Cds and it did it for me - lost two stone in the first month I tried!

ninja · 27/01/2008 09:14

Gained 2.5, lost 1 stone straight away but it took 9 months to lose the rest (and I was breastfeeding as well) I never believed all those celebrities could do it within weeks but I see people do. I'll have try harder this time!! I have to say I've never felt so hungry as when Breast feeding

yama · 27/01/2008 09:20

About 2 and a half stone and the bfing took it all off within a few months. In fact I look at photos of myself when dd was 7 months old and think I was too thin.

Judy1234 · 27/01/2008 09:28

With the twins I went from 9 stone to 12 stone by 40 weeks (rare for twins to get the chance to get to 40 weeks and I was pleased). I was 9 stone 4 by my brother's wedding which was when they were 6 months old. With some of the other children I didn't lose weight so easily at all or I wasn't as keen or more tired or something.

i think part of the problem is exhaustion with a new baby is likely to make a lot of people put on more weight not lose it. I remember being up at 2am feeding and going downstairs for chocolate.

oxocube · 27/01/2008 09:31

About 2 stone with the boys and less with dd. All lost within about 4 months I think - but it was a while ago so I may be wrong! Weigh less post kids but thats because I rarely sit still and my lifestyle has totally changed

Tutter · 27/01/2008 09:34

3.5 stones both times (and i didn't lose 1 of the stones between the 2 pregnancies - so ended up 4.5 stones heavier than i started, iykwim)

have 11lbs to go to reach pre-ds2's weight

would like to get to 10 stone again one day - that's 1 stone 6lbs away...

FrannyandZooey · 27/01/2008 09:48

1st time I put on 3 stone and lost about 4 stone or at one point 4.5 stone afterwards

when I sropped bfing I slowly put some weight back on until i was the same weight as when I conceived ds

I then conceived again! Have put on nearly a stone so far (am 17 weeks) so am expecting a similar overall weight gain

StrangeTown · 27/01/2008 10:22

I put on about 3 and a half stone with DS. He is 8 weeks now and I am back in old clothes, but not sure of weight. Am a different shape, but I actualy prefer it. I have thicker waist and feel more in proportion. I am BF though, so will be sad when I stop and lose the new look. I am 36 so certainly no springing back into shape for me, it just happened gradually and then one day I felt brave enough to try my old jeans...

biglips · 27/01/2008 10:27

i put on 2.5 stones and lost 4 stones 10 months later after i gave birth then slowly put back on 1.5 so im back where i was before i got pg first time round and now im pg again

sweetkitty · 27/01/2008 10:32

DD1 - put on 2 stone, lost 3 in about 8 weeks after she was born

DD2 - put on 3 stone , lost 3 1/2 was in size 10 trousers the day after she was born so was all bump unlike DD1 when it was all over.

Was a size 12 before DC was a size 8 (am pregnant again so it's going all back on again)

I did nothing to lose the weight but reckon it was a combination of BFing and not being at work (I worked in the food industry and had free cake samples all day long so was surrounded by food I used to sit at my desk and eat) with a toddler and newborn no chance of this. Expect I will lose it all again with 2 toddlers and a newborn, I only eat now when hungry instead of out of boredom think that made the difference.

PregnantPenguin · 27/01/2008 15:01

Hi - Like you I'm 5'3" and pre pregnancy was 10 st, 9lb. I weighed myself last week at 20 weeks and was 12 stone. :0( NOT HAPPY.

However as I have a tendency to obsess over my weight and fluctuate hugely (this time last year I was 9 stone), asked Hubbie to put scales in the loft where I can't get to them. This preganancy is the one time when I am eating healthily (neither binging nor starving) and that's how I want it to stay. The scales are just too scary...

Anna8888 · 27/01/2008 15:04

I gained 18 kilos and lost 23 kilos.
