Amniotic Fluid at 12 weeks?

Sorry for the details... I'm 12 weeks pregnant and I basically felt like I had wee'd myself and my knickers were completely soaked, it was completely clear but after a couple of times of wiping I felt like there was watery blood? It stopped after a few wipes.

Any advice? It's my first pregnancy so I don't know much about amniotic fluid! Is this a bad sign? 😩

Best thing you can do is contact your early pregnancy unit, I have no advice sorry but defo get checked out x

Hi

My waters broke with my Son at 25w. Luckily we were able to keep him in but you absolutely need to contact your pregnancy unit immediately if you think it's amnio.

Sadly there is very little they can do but you will need assessing and monitoring!

I hope it's not amnio, and everything works out ok x

Phone your maternity triage. Sometimes they ask you to bring the pants with you but they'd want to check you over.

I kept getting gushing throughout my pregnancy of what I thought was clear, odourless fluid. I was terrified and I went up to the maternity unit twice to have a swab taken to check for waters. Both times it was negative and it turned out to be very watery discharge (I finally whipped a mirror out and had a look down there!) I relaxed a lot after that.

Definitely go and get it checked. They’ll just take a swab and then test it for waters. Good luck x

Put a pad on and ring your local midwife unit, if it happens again they can check the pad but I think there is other checks they can do also.

I contacted the maternity triage and they told me to go to a&e and then they transferred me to gynaecology, they did a test and said everything was fine and my cervix was fine and it's just normal discharge? I was literally like... are you sure? Still feeling a little unsure walking out of there but they're the experts I suppose?

It's my first (so far successful) pregnancy so obvs I'm a little worried about everything and didn't know much about amniotic fluid. It just seemed a lot to come out of me so I assumed it was that!

@xalexandra if you are remotely unhappy with the theory that it is discharge or you continue to pass fluid please call your unit back!

When I called with my son in 2020 they told me it was a combo of discharge, urine and sweat and turned out it wasn't!

I've been back into the unit with this pregnancy concerned about fluid loss and they told me it was discharge, and after a swab test it they confirmed it actually was, but it's better to be safe than sorry!

@MrsRose2018 they did a swab test on me, is there anything else they need to do?

Sorry I don't know much about this kind of issue! X

@xalexandra awh hun I didn't realise they had swabbed you too! I wasn't sure how common a test it was! They didn't have it at my hospital in 2020!

It's 97% accurate isn't it so I would take that as very comforting reassurance and just try relax now :)

Keep an eye on your underwear and if you are REMOTELY concerned call back!

xx

@MrsRose2018 haha I mean afterwards, I was like "are you SURE?" And she was like "YES" lol - I guess I've just got to keep an eye on it!

I had my 12 week scan today funnily enough, and mentioned it today as well and she said it looks all fine from the scan so I feel better now. It was just such a worry yesterday because it's hard to know what's normal and what's not! X
