I’m 5+5 with an IVF pregnancy following a TFMR in Dec 2021 (my first pregnancy) and have just been diagnosed with an inguinal hernia. I am almost sure it pre-dates the pregnancy but it’s apparently really uncommon in pregnant women (0.1%). I have an appointment with the consultant tomorrow, but just wondered (long shot) if anyone has been through this. I’m so nervous to navigate pregnancy in any case because of our loss and now I am worried about my own medical needs negatively impacting the baby.

I have a hernia presently at 27 weeks. I get them every single pregnancy from towards the end of the first trimester. I have had them every one of my pregnancies and this is baby number 6. However, when I give birth the hernia goes pretty much after delivery. And my husband says for me to have the surgery but its gone. Its a nightmare and even just loading the washing machine is difficult as it bulges out just above my belly button. I hate it. I hope it gets easier for you.

Thanks for your reply - what a pain to have it x6 times! Hopefully mine can then be managed until after I have finished having babies too.

I had an inguinal hernia (not pregnant) and the advice was that it was ok as long as it didn’t start to hurt. I had it operated on with an epidural.
