Nuchal/CVS for Mum who already has child with Downs

Does anyone out there have a child with downs syndrome who has then gone on to have another child. I have 2 children and the second one was born with downs alhtough my AFP test came back low risk (total shock).

I'm on my 3rd pregnancy at 8 weeks and have booked a nuchal fold scan at 12 weeks. But I'm worried the results will be high anyway because of my age (36). I will probably have cvs (which has been offered the same day if I want it).

Just wondered if anyone else has been in the same situation.

xx

Hi, my eldest has Down's syndrome. Went on to have two more girls who do not have DS.

When they gave me a nuchal with DD2 I asked them to not tick the box that said I already had a child with DS and then give me my nuchal reading. After all it was a fluke thing that occured that caused the X chromosome to stick to the Y when DD1 was born so why did it have to count against as such before I'd even had a scan with DD2.

I think the whole nuchal thing is sooooooo misleading tbh.

I was low risk with lottie and she was born with DS and high risk with Dd2 and she doesn't.

If you want to know for sure, skip the nuchal and go straight for a cvs and know 100%.

Ps - did you have the nuchal test with the blood test too (I think it is referred to as the 'triple test'?

I dont think your age per se will make you high risk to start off with. Over 40 maybe (like yours truly!)

Are you going to the FMC? I found them very good at helping me decide

Do I'm going to Queens Medical Ctr in Nottingham as we live in Derbyshire.
